Orioles acquire SS Isaac DeLeon and OF Mishael Deson to complete the Bleier and Givens trades

Recommended Posts

How did they get him with the 60 man only trade rule?  I doubt he even comes to the states this year so seems odd to make trade now.

The Rockies signed Dominican outfielder Mishael Deson for $350,000 when he turned 16 on July 7. Deson stood out for his physical upside and chance to stay in center field. He's added about 15 pounds since signing and is now up to 6-foot-3, 170 pounds.

Pretty much a throw-in.   Not terrible for a third piece when the other two pieces were pretty decent.

Jesuchristo, ustedes se quejan de todo.  Dame más jóvenes de 17 a 18 años que pesen 6’2” 170 libras y sean atléticos.

Quit complaining about everything. Basically we picked up an additional two international draft picks that have been seasoned for two years. Hand me a dozen 17 year old 6’3 kids that are about 170 pounds , athletic and have never watched baseball in their lives and 1 or 2 will end up a top 30 organizational player in two to 3 years if their heart is in it.  Better than getting a 27 year old AAAA player or the lazy guy who road his fastball into a draft pick but never listened to anyone after and still is reliving his days as homecoming king and thinks he can still get by with that straight as an arrow four steamer topping out at 92.

Who is complaining?  This was the guy they got for Bleier.  Seems like a decent return for what was traded.

@Philipkinda did, he hoped that other PTBNLs are more exciting than this.  And then said Bleier looked like a character from the Dick van Dyke show.  No doubt he was listening to Chopin, wearing a smoking jacket (with an ascot) and drinking a vintage cab sauv when he made that astute assessment.

    • At the end of the day, you guys are right. The market dictates the value and the market decided he was not worth what he was going to get in arbitration. Whether his previous production and age suggests he SHOULD be worth that, the market decided it was not.
    • I'm not going to lie, but that is up there for one of the greatest lines in Hangout history.
    • I agree.    If you let Nunez go, it shouldn’t be primarily because of cost.    Now, if you think you can get equivalent or better production for your roster cheaper, that is okay.  But you don’t make your team worse over $2 mm or less.     It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Nunez.    There’s going to be a lot of players on the market after the non-tender deadline I suspect.    I do think he’ll get a major league contract somewhere and will get above the minimum, but it might be less than he was projected to get in arbitration.
    • Shaw would not crack our top 30.
    • With the injury histories of Hays, Santander and relative inexperience with mixed results of Mullins and Stewart, I'm not sure we can say that. No Nunez did clear waivers and no one traded for him so perhaps there is something else going on here with him, but the guy has been a pretty productive bat and is just going to be 27 years old next year. Either way, I get what you are saying about Shaw and I agree, I think Elias will end up DFAing him and trying to keep him in the system.
    • I'm not excited that the team is making moves because guys are cheap, especially when the other option is around $2 million, which should be chump change for major league organizations. I'm just not sure I get this particular set of skills. Now perhaps Elias is going to DFA him and try to sneak him into the minor league system as depth. I guess there are worse guys to do this with, but I really would like to think this is a transition year where the Orioles are starting to bring up guys that will be contributors to a winning future and not place holders.
    • This is actually incorrect. As of now, there is no DH in the NL in 2021, so he wouldn’t have a ton of value to teams over there.  If NL teams knew the DH was happening for them in 2021, maybe they would have found a suitor. And we don’t know that someone won’t pay him 1-2M in 2021.  We just know that no one was willing to trade for him and pay him that money.  Big difference. In any case, he’s not expensive.  The average MLB salary in 2020 was almost 4.5M.  He would have been paid well under that number.  In fact, with MLB minimum salary close to 600k, he will get paid much closer to the minimum salary than the average salary.  So no, he’s not expensive at all.
