Draft Order 2021

Recommended Posts

What I would have done is projected this year’s record out to 162 games (including decimal points), and then weighted it equally with last year’s record.   So for example if the O’s finish 26-34, that would project out to 70.2 wins over 162 games.    Add their 54 wins from 2019 for a total of 124.2.

I think that would have avoided giving sole weight to a short season that may have had some fluky results, while at the same time not putting undue weight on 2019 (which would count 2.7 times as much if you just added the two seasons together).   I do think this year’s results ought to have at least equal weight with any past results.

Obviously I’m biased but if this happens it is just stupid. They should have at least weighed the last 2 seasons equally.

Frobby’s formula makes a lot of sense.

My idea was more simplistic: Take the order of finish from this year and from last year then tally the placements. Example for Orioles: 29 last year plus ?23? this year totals 52, which probably translates to 25th or 26th or something. Senators finished ?5? last year and ?26? this year for a total of 31, which might translate to 13th or so. Not sure whether it would be much different from Frobby's order. But I guess we won;t need to bother doing the math on this at the end of the season,

I'm assuming we'll be picking anywhere between 5th and 8th.

But it sucks because the Sox are picking in the top 3.

And last year's World Series champion picking 6th.

Maybe they will screw up and take the ninth ranked guy second overall?

We can fix that the next 3 nights! 🧙‍♀️

Probably would be very similar.

Maybe just base the ranking upon each teams last 162 regular season games.   Of course the Nats would be hurt since they got off to a bad start in 2019 until Gerardo Parra brought in the “Baby Shark”.

Please stop, this has been a dead horse for months. FTR I agree with you but it will be a few years before we know the result.

I am calm, which is unusual after a political discussion with my Millennial son and 3 glasses of red. You didn't use green font so I was addled, yeah that's the ticket!!! 😀

It isn't an official board rule or anything and if I'm on mobile I generally don't bother.

    • I disagree that he's so important that a team would have to overpay for him to be dealt.  He's still pretty much the same guy the O's got on the cheap last year. Anyway, bad defense encourages the pitchers to strike batters out!
    • @Tony-OH Just another quick thank you for the time and effort of doing this.  Makes my lunchtime reading very enjoyable!
    • Because I the idea of a good, veteran defensive SS anchoring the infield while we--hopefully--feature a very young pitching staff next year getting their feet wet at the Major League level. I am not a fan of Velazquez and am skeptical about Martin. I guess you could sign someone like Hechavarria, but it's going to be hard to find a good defensive shortstop that is not completely useless at the plate for the cost of Iglesias (and we certainly aren't going to pay any more than that for someone for next year, nor should we).  With the young pitching, I want to give them as much as possible to succeed. To me, that means good defense up the middle and at least some offense. I don't want them always expecting to have to be nearly perfect to have a chance of getting their team a win. Having some wiggle room from time-to-time, in my estimation, is helpful. Of course, I don't have data to back that up, but that's my thought.
    • 2021 midseason moves will probably be crazy.   The whiffing in the NYP suggests a conservative initial assignment, but also one where hopefully he's Barry Bonds grown man to the children he'll be playing with.  A good Stowers '21 I think pushes through three levels; two is making par, maybe.
    • From the underrated guitarist department...
    • I saw Stowers multiple games with Aberdeen in Brooklyn in 2019.  He just glides across the OF in large strides (which makes it all the more impressive that Janvrin pushed Stowers to RF - which gave the Aberdeen pitchers two OFers who could track down everything that possibly could be tracked down).  As I posted at the time, we sat with Mark Dashbach's father and had to cheer for our three Stanford guys with him.   I hope what the Os saw with Stower's swing is fixable because there's a big hit risk here for a second rounder IMO.  This pick has the downside of the OF equivalent of a Cadyn Grenier.  It would be an enormous boost to our OFers at the bottom of the system if Stowers turns into the player the Os envisioned when drafted.
    • This is really good. Sideys from something I was listening. I saw Edgar, right near here in Chambersburg. Very excellent! Don't know what event that was, Ringo introducing.
