The Rays havent overachieved at all.

They were tied for 3rd in run-differential, and they won 96 games last year.

Going into the season, I felt they would win the division and would be one of the best teams in the AL ...... most people felt the same way.

I think that their pitching is better than Los Angeles overall, BUT I do question their bats. I think that the Dodgers will win in 6 games ...... but if WS Kershaw shows up, the Dodgers could be in trouble.

All things considered, I think that the Orioles fared pretty well against the Rays in head-on play (particularly in regard to run-differential.)

Even after the surprising 3-game sweep early in the season, almost every loss to them was a close, hard-fought game. The Orioles won 4 and lost 6 games overall, and 5 out of the 6 losses were by 2 runs or less. 2 of the losses were by 1 run, 3 of the losses were by 2 runs, and 1 loss was by 4 runs.

I have a hard time rooting for any other team besides the Orioles, just not in my make-up. Nothing wrong with others doing it, but not for me.

When you turn on the TV and there's a game on, don't you naturally root for one team over the other?  It's pretty rare that I can watch a game and truly not care, even in the moment, who wins. I'm not going out and buying a shirt and I won't care either way 10 minutes after the last game is over, but I'll be rooting for the Rays over the Dodgers.

I truly dont care who wins, normally, but i will admit, if I see a really stupid call, or a pitcher throw a ball the batters head, well, I do tend to root for the other team.

The asterisk here, the above doesnt count for the Yankees. LOL

DEPRESSING THOUGHT OF THE DAY

If the World Series goes 7 games, Globe Life Park will have hosted more postseason games than Oriole Park.

I'll have just the regular Game 7 rooting interest with Nick gone.

I suppose I could arcanely root for the Dodgers because I think the odds of Turner leaving are greater if he gets his dogpile, and he's a favorite pre-Lindor Cohort target if we Werth'ed anyone this year.  I think until/unless the Dodgers get one Turner will basically do Tim Wakefield style auto-renews.  I have imagined he could be out there this offseason at Dodgers discretion going towards Seager/Lux on left side, but Lux's 2020 hasn't really positioned him for that.

Willy Adames being a huge WS hero could be fun, because I think he's soon the next Archer type piece out the door to clear Wander space, and they'd still do it.   Of course Adames heroics would increase their return, and bargaining position to try and do Acuna/Albies things to Wander so that might not be the best thing to cheer for.  Much less risk of that though as Wander did at least get about 40x Acuna in the beginning.

I pretty much don't care between the 2 teams.  A good friend of mine is a Dodger fan and I don't really know any Rays fans, so I guess I'll root for the Dodgers for no other reason than that.

Well, last night was fun.  Glad to see Kershaw get a win and dominate.  And to see all of Betts' skills on display was a treat, too.

I am loooooooooooooving all the articles/people looking at the SAWX and saying HOW COULD YOU HAVE LET THIS GUY GO?!?!?!  I hope this is the new Curse, that they go another 96 years or whatever without winning a Series.

I'm good with either team winning.  I'd like to see the Dodgers win and to see Kershaw get a ring, he deserves one.  And if the Rays win, it's a victory for the little guys everywhere.

I would love to see nothing but bad things for the Red Sox but the current Betts narrative is stupid.

Hating on the Red Sox is fine no matter what the narrative is.  Dammit, SG, just quit with the "I'm right all the time schtick" and enjoy it.  Who cares if the narrative is stupid?  Sox are getting made fun of, can't we have nice things?

Boy was Amsinger on MLB at lunchtime yammering about how the Rays might need Snell for 120 pitches tonight getting stuff wrong that seems to be very obvious here.

The off days are back - the Rays have a near must win tonight.  The Dodgers are giving Buehler the extra rest for 3/7 and kind of sort of just goofing off tonight.  The Rays didn't get to use their Anderson/Fairbanks/Castillo "#1 starter" last night.   Snell was salty at the quick (to him) hook late in the ALCS, but he should be ready again tonight.  I think the Rays feel he's their worst pitcher on a per-inning basis they aim to use in the first 9 innings tonight.

    • I think you will be seeing “essential” workers begin to be vaccinated by Feb-March.  December and January will be healthcare workers and the elderly but this makes up probably less than 25 percent of the population.
    • Umm..yes, you are wrong.  Several teams treat the position as of its a full time position.  That at bat stats is a fact you can’t argue against.  That’s the definition of “full time”.
    • March should be early enough to book your flight and hotel.
    • I wonder if they would still be on the hook for the entire salary if they waited til after a potential announcement of a shortened season?
    • Nah, I’m not wrong. however, If I may my father’s comment half way through a performance of Mahler 8: ” well, I’ve had about as much of this as I can stand. Let’s go find something interesting to eat.“ And that is what I am going to do… God bless you and happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
    • I posted way back at the beginning of the thread that I thought it was possible Nunez had another level of improvement left in him.   If I’m guessing (which is all it is), I think Hays and Santander will be better hitters than Nunez at their respective peaks.    But I don’t know it for sure.   It’s sort of a moot point since we agree Nunez isn’t really competing with those two for at bats.   As to Stewart, I’m guessing he will not turn out to be as good a hitter as Nunez, though I’m not sure about that, either.
    • o   The St. Louis Cardinals franchise has been around since 1882. That's 139 seasons. In all of that time (1882-present), who holds the all-time Cardinals franchise record for most consecutive strikeouts in a game? Is it Bob Gibson ??? Grover Cleveland Alexander ??? Jesse Haines ??? Dizzy Dean ??? No. While those superstars shined brightly for many years and many games for the Redbirds (especially Gibson and Haines), none of them holds the franchise record (1882-present) for the most consecutive strikeouts in a game. If not one of them, then who ??? Perhaps Bob Forsch, Steve Carlton, Mort Cooper, or John Tudor ??? Nix again. Believe it or not, it is none other than JOHN SMOLTZ. In 2009, in the twilight of his career and well past his prime, future Hall-of-Famer Smoltz struck out 7 consecutive batters on August 23rd against the Padres ........ IN HIS VERY FIRST GAME AS A CARDINAL. And mind you, this WAS NOT vintage John Smoltz. This was a 42 year-old pitcher who was hanging on at the end of his storied career, probably for no other reason than wanting to get every inch of love out of the game that he had been playing for the better part of his life. In fact, previous to the Cardinals signing him as a free agent that August, Smoltz has been absolutely dreadful pitching for the Red Sox (which is why they released him in the first place), going 2-5 with an 8.33 ERA. Smoltz pitched 6 more games for the Cardinals, and retired at the end of the season. Strange, but true.   o
