LookinUp Report post Posted October 13, 2020 Am I the only one who is pretty fired up that we had a few hitters able to excel against Grayson Rodriguez in Bowie? That's noteworthy to me. I'm sure it reflects on Rodriguez some, but he's still bringing legit stuff, and we apparently have guys who can barrel that. Cool.
OrioleDog Report post Posted December 23, 2020 https://art19.com/shows/mlb-pipeline FWIW Callis and Mayo re-did the 2018 draft 2.5 years out and had Rodriguez up to 1-5, even ahead of Madrigal as upside/floor lines cross like Saturn and Jupiter. The one tidbit from not an Orioles employee was from their Trezza (only just a league employee) at instructs just about general enthusiasm for the size/stuff/feel. I guess we'll never know if he got to pitch to Wander Franco or anything that one week at the end of instructs it was hinted there might be a few games with other teams.

That is exciting. 2nd best pitcher in the draft behind Casey Mize. And they were not the complimentary on Mize.
Philip Report post Posted December 23, 2020 G-Rod may be the best pick Dan made. Here’s hoping he doesn’t step in any potholes.

I’ll get excited when he has success in the majors. Nobody really knows who will be the best or second best pitcher from that draft class. I’m glad Callis and Mayo like him, though. To be clear, only one of them had Rodriguez at 1-5. The other said he would not have picked Rodriguez there. But it’s clear they both like him a lot. Moose Milligan Report post Posted January 19 1 hour ago, Sports Guy said: https://www.mlb.com/orioles/news/2021-top-10-right-handed-pitching-prospects Highest ceiling: Rodriguez There are many candidates on this list to claim this category, but Rodriguez’s size, stuff, feel for pitching and age (he’ll be 21 for all of 2021) make it easy to imagine the 2018 first-rounder topping this list in the future.
Sanfran327 Report post Posted January 19 I like his size. I know there have been plenty of smaller pitchers lately that have done extremely well, but I will always default to the classic, big-bodied stature that GrayRod possesses. Excited to see him in Baltimore, whenever that might be.
LookinUp Report post Posted January 19 Keith Law doesn't like his mechanics. Tree trunk legs might not compensate for weird mechanics. All pitching prospects make me nervous.
Aristotelian Report post Posted January 19 2 hours ago, Sports Guy said: https://www.mlb.com/orioles/news/2021-top-10-right-handed-pitching-prospects I like that he moved to cover 3B on that first play even though it wasn't needed. The body and stuff certainly pass the eye test. Looks a little like Trevor Bauer but a couple inches taller!
