Different situation ..... Mountcastle hit .312/.344/.527 in 544 at bats in 2019 at AAA. He was clearly ready and I'm not sure how you think the Bowie time impacted that. He started at the Bowie camp only because there was no AAA. He started at the Bowie camp to delay the clock.

Either I've done a poor job of making my point about the orioles' view of the camp at Bowie in 2020 or you have missed the point completely.  Either way, there is no point continuing this, as  it is clear that you have your mind made up that everyone will be assigned to their 2019 levels.  That's fine, you are welcome to your opinion.

Makes you wonder why they even bothered doing it.

I don’t know why you keep saying this.  It’s obvious that if he doesn’t perform, he doesn’t come up.  There is no need to mention the same thing over and over and over again.

This is like saying, if you don’t breathe, you will die.  We get it.

That’s not the issue being discussed.

And btw the term “rushed” is a fallacy.

I’m Sports Guy and I have to be able to declare victory! We get it!

I didn’t say everyone will....Only that is what I would do!

It’s not the same as playing competitive games. Certainly it was better than nothing, plus it was a placeholder in case rostered players tested positive and a replacement was required.

Context.

He hit very well in spells in Bowie, but tended to get hurt and start slowly when he came back. So,  his cumulative stats MAY not be an indicator of his true talent. Additionally, the coaches/management see him and have the modern equipment to better evaluate that question (e.g., his true talent, expected future performance) than "old" stats like batting average in the context of injuries might indicate.

With that said, I'm not convinced that his true talent actually matches his original hype when signed by the Dodgers or traded to the O's. Tony's write-ups raise serious questions in that regard, so I don't think you're wrong to want to see some performance before promoting him. But I suspect the people you're arguing with in this thread actually agree about that point.

Noted thanks! Isn’t that equipment available all throughout the organization by now? If not that’s a problem in itself.

Honestly for some players it might be more useful than competitive games.  Perfect time to rebuild muscle memory.

I'd rather see Stewart at DH while the outfield starts off with Mountcastle, Hays and Santander. Mancini for me is the 1B if he's healthy.

The best defensive outfielder the Orioles can put out there is Hays in LF, Mullins in CF, and Santander in RF. If Mancini is not ready, Id go with that with Mountcastle moving to 1B and Stewart still at DH.

Mullins and Stewart are odd couple platoon mates, but I think this is the right configuration and they'll basically be an Offense/Defense one the first month or so.

For 4 of the 5 OF/DH/1B spots, I see Mancini, Hays, Santander, Mountcastle a couple few ticks ahead of that platoon from a straight talent standpoint, and haven't given up on Diaz belonging to the better of those two tiers to finish out that 55.5% of the lineup.   Maybe he's only 75-90% as good as Mullins fielding or Stewart hitting, but a possible two way player shouldn't be too much slowed by those guys, and I'd guess in the long run he outhits Stewart straight up.

The nice thing is the attractive Offense/Defense combo can still both help the team as OF4/OF5 even if that's one slot down from DH/OF4.   Hays and Mancini aren't gonna be Cal in 2021, but they are 2 of the 5 Voltron lions setting a floor for early Adley lineups (just like all these 2018/2019 SEC guys are for the back rotation/long relief) while we await seeing how good the guys on the dirt can get in time.

Down 1 late next spring, Hyde perhaps pinch hits Stewart and pinch runs Mullins for the whole other 44.4% of the lineup most any day.

On Yusniel and Adley and not giving up on 2022, you could probably sell me on the argument after not seeing live pitching in 2020 (except the same dozen-ish camp guys), why mess them up having to gear for AAA junk half the year?    Assuming you want to keep all your Not Maximizing Wins at the MLB Level silo'ed to 2021.

Two milion?  You better check again.

The Dodgers putting 8 figures on him has always been a piece of my optimism, at least that the Mullinses and Stewarts of the world are something else.

Should’ve sent Davis there!

I am fascinated to see what the Blip does to batter pitcher battles.

I think I think the emerging technologies give pitchers a big edge in having been able to use 2020 productively.  The teams are curating Speed X, Spin Y, Tunnel Z - pitchers don't need hitters at all to refine their craft (I've got Earl, "the hitters will let me know" turning over in his grave there).

The hitters meanwhile....maybe the backend Bowie arms day after day were still exciting for Gunnar Henderson, High School Class of 2019, but I imagine Adley was beating up Bruce Zimmermann something fierce by the end of summer.  And I still want him facing Gerrit Cole in Week 2.

There's always the hometown tint, but if our PitchDev is plus now and Baumann/Hall/Rodriguez gained relatively on other young 20's dudes last year, I think even at the MLB level their 2021 productivity could be respectable, or with them there Orange Colored glasses, at Release The Kraken, Lindor-wooing levels.

I don't know, but if it's still a problem I imagine that Elias has a plan to get it fixed. Those advanced tools are central to his evaluation and player development strategies.

I think that any MiL hitter would benefit from going against our MiL pitching at this point. If it didn't benefit them, they're probably already close to Major League All Star level players. Really, any hitter that has to face 95 MPH and decent secondaries will benefit from that. That doesn't mean I'm saying our arms are all ML arms, but they're very good MiL arms, which is toward the top of what they'd be facing if they were actually playing minor league games.

Wish we would’ve just taken the money we paid Iglesias(2.5 million), and just given it to prospect from the Dominican. We would’ve likely gotten back a player better than a barely top 30 prospect/low ceiling prospect.
