MASN now streaming.

Or they could not blackout the games so that you FA get mlb.tv and not have to do 100 other things so you can watch the game.

Its just dumb.

That option would of course be second to just letting us pay them directly. This is all very dumb, hopefully it gets sorted out soon, but it should have happened 5+ years ago.

Exactly.  Which makes me think it will take another 5+ years until they put it on a streaming platform.

I am not getting my hopes up. Seems you have to still have a cable sub plus how much is the app? Why would I want and app if I can just watch the games on tv, who is really sitting there watching games on your phone? Not to mention knowing the Orioles I am sure the app will look like something from 2010 and not work and be missing features

And the Orioles broadcast team for 2021 has been made official.

Yikes, the comments under that post are brutal. Seems people are not surprisingly not happy with letting Thorne go.

I've never understood the blackout rules.  Like back in the day, I think the thinking was "attendance is down, if we don't air the games on TV...people will come to the games."

Which might have worked in 1975.  But if thats what they're thinking now, then...there's no way I'm leaving my cool, air conditioned house with all my food and snacks and a big comfy couch and a 65 inch tv to drive 2 hours and bake outside to watch this team play.

No.  I'm going to use technology to figure out the answer to my problem.  It's not my problem that MLB.tv hasn't figured out a way, apparently, to include in-market games in that package.  I'd gladly pay more for MLB.tv each year if they did so.

I don't necessarily think it's dumb. It's inconvenient for sure though. If you get rid of the blackout rules, you would remove a whole lot of the value to the MASN (or whatever RSN) relationship. Whatever money the O's get from MASN, I think that would go down quite a bit with local access to MLB.TV. I assume you'd have to then pay more for MLB.TV and things could get messy when divvying out royalties to individual teams.

Yep. I tried to be positive, but most people are understandably upset.

I don't know who's responsible for the broadcasters--the O's or MASN--but it wasn't really handled well.

....exactly.  I'd pay more for MLB.tv because it would mean I am NOT PAYING FOR CABLE.  I'd probably drop my YoutubeTV subscription and just pick it up again in the winter months to be able to watch football.  I don't even watch that much espn anymore.

Agreed. It used to be about local attendance, but I think now its more about the crazy contracts that RSNs are paying to show games. They want to keep those subscribers.

That makes sense, but unless I'm missing something the RSNs would stand to make more additionally if they would stream on YoutubeTV, hulu, sling, etc.

Oh wait, that's right.  A lot of them already do.  Except for MASN.

Count me under the dissatisfied column. I remember Garceau when he called games on Channel 2 back in the early 90's and he was good. But I think Thorne is better and he can make a bad game entertaining especially when Jim Palmer is involved.

I don't feel much of a connection to the club anymore with all the turnover in the organization. Hopefully a new team core emerges, but I am not pumped up to watch baseball in 2021.

Well at least if you were going to watch bad baseball, you could have a guy with a great voice telling you about it.

When I've been in Florida, Texas and Colorado, I used my MLBTV subscription and watched the games on my phone. I wanted to use it in an around Md when I've been out and not near a TV, but I couldn't because of the Orioles decision to keep them blackout locally.

I assume this is the first step in allowing us to at least stream the games in an around MD if you already have MASN through a cable subscription.

After MD taxes and hidden Verizon fees jumped my bill $40 a month, I'm looking to cut the cord but can't until I have a sustainable ability to watch the Orioles games on my TV.

I've heard that IPTV.com is an option, but haven't really looked into too much but I have a friend that swears by it and he lives in Tampa.

Right, that's what gets me, if all but the Orioles and I think the Dodgers have a way to make money streaming, why do the Orioles think they will lose money?

Oh I totally get it. I paid for Directv in North Carolina for many years only to watch O's games, because it was my only option. I'd happily pay quite a bit to be able to stream the O's without a cable subscription, but I don't know how many other people would.

The cable companies and RSNs still have a pretty sweet deal because so many people pay a fee in their bill to cover local sports rights that couldn't care less about sports.
