Mlb.com O's Opening Day Roster (Trezza)

Recommended Posts

Biggest omissions appear to be DJ and Zimmerman. Also Leblanc, Bannon, Sceroler, and of course Adley. I'm not a fan of Jorge but hope he proves me wrong if he makes the club.

😄 Severino, Sisco

1B: Mancini, Davis

2B: Yolmer

SS: Galvis

3B: Ruiz

OF: Mountcastle, Hays, Mullins, Santander

Util: Valaika

SP: Mean, King, Harvey, Kremer, Akin

RP: Valdez, Harvey, Scott, Fry, Tate, Lakins, Sulser, Jorge

The one name on the list that sticks out like a sore thumb--Chris Davis.

If he were to start on the DL, DJ would be a natural replacement.

It is too early to be making concrete predictions. It is inexplicable we can’t find a better 3B than Ruiz, or at least an equally bad one with more potential. I don’t think Felix or Harvey makes it,  Fry has been bad, several guys have been good, and it seems that Trezza isn’t paying attention to the games.

This is just fluff. If this is the team that breaks camp, a lot of better guys will be left behind.

I only count 25 names.  There is a 26 man roster this year.

It's worse than fluff, Trezza apparently doesn't even know there's a 26 man roster this year.

That being said, it might not be too far off.  Add DJ as a 26th guy, replace Felix with someone who can throw 89, and it will probably be pretty close.

Actually it appears that Trezza did list 26 guys.  The OP left off Armstrong.

So one of the OFs starts at DH and we have no backup OF without moving the DH to the field?  And our entire bench consists of the catcher who didn't start and is unlikely to play for most of the game, Davis, and Valaika.

Elias’ goal is to amass talent. With that in mind, he’s going to keep one of the R5s, and my current vote is for Wells. He also wants to avoid DFAs, unless he can add someone clearly better. So he’s only going to add one contract, and at the moment, that looks like LeBlanc.

Fry may be in Danger. He’s been meh so far.
the NRIs are going back to wherever they came from, though one or two have looked good. Greene, and a guy who skips my mind ATM.

I wish we knew which guys were in the games specifically working on certain pitches and didn’t care about the result, and which guys were trying to get hits/outs and just being bad.

Im curious about the rosters on June 1, July 1 and Aug 1.

I always find it funny when we (including myself) get worked up over OD rosters.  They mean nothing.

They mean something for contenders.

True, they mean nothing, but we talk about to because it's something to talk about and it is relevant at this time of year.  Come July and August, I imagine we'll be talking about what post-deadline roster will be.

I agree, more or less.   I’m far more interested in who is in our rotation this September than who is in it in April.   I’m also really interested in who is getting the OF/1B/DH playing time in the second half vs. the first half.    And needless to say, I’m really interested in who our starting catcher is by August/September.

Cross these guys off the list:

”The first round of cuts was made today, with the Orioles reassigning catcher Brett Cumberland, infielder Mason McCoy, right-hander Marcos Diplán and left-handers Josh Rogers and Zach Muckenhirn to Twin Lakes camp.”

https://www.masnsports.com/school-of-roch/2021/03/wrapping-up-means-start-defense-cuts-and-13-1-loss.html

No surprises there.

    • I just don’t get how we can send down our MVP, Valaika, and still expect to win games?!?!
    • No of course you don’t...but he believes himself to be.  It’s part of the whole thing you were talking about.
    • I actually found it quite entertaining. To each their own I guess.
    • It is widely expected that DJ Stewart will be activated for the Injured List today.  What does you bring and how can he help? He brings experience.  In DJ's pro career he has played  527 games in the outfield corners.   Ryan Mountcastle has played 55  games in the outfield in the minors and the majors.   DJ's  outfield experience has not always been perfect.  He is known for some spectacular misplays.   But he has average speed,  average range and an average left fielder's arm.   HIs overall outfield defensive game should be a improvement over Mountcastle and should move Ryan to DH more often than not if Brandon Hyde takes advantage for the assets he is given. Stewart offensive game is a low average with power and the ability to work a walk that has netted him a 224/334/433/768 split in 301 major league plate appearances.   His left-handed bat should be additive to the O's lineup.    How long will you stay may depend on how he does and whether Austin Hays hamstring heals fast or lingers.   If Stewart does well he will give the Hyde a reason to go from 14 pitchers to 13 when Hays returns.    Injuries have been a problem for Stewart but over the last 3 years he has played in 77% of his teams game.  That is about the same as Santander. Much better than Hays 59% or Diaz 64% but not close to Mullins 93%. Good Luck DJ.  I hope you are at the top of your game because the O's could use that player.
    • Personally I find it more constructive and rewarding to riff on the idea of a developmental system and service time manipulation for announcers than I do wildly speculating about what the guy who says names out loud could have possibly done to get himself escorted out of the gates.
    • My supposition is he did something the team found unacceptable very recently.   I’m sure they didn’t like the timing at all.
    • Let’s look at the six main culprits so far: 1.   Ryan Mountcastle, 11 K’s in 30 PA (36.7%).  21.4% last year. 2.  Trey Mancini, 11 K’s in 31 PA (35.5%).  21.1% in 2019. 3.   Rio Ruiz, 10 K’s in 25 PA (40%). 22.5% last year. 4.  Freddy Galvis, 10 K’s in 29 PA (34.5%).   18.9% last year,. 5.  Pedro Severino, 9 K’s in 23 PA (39.1%).    22.5% last year. 6.  Anthony Santander, 9 K’s in 27 PA (33.3%).   15.2% last year. I’m fairly sure all those are coming down substantially.   The one that worries me most is Mancini, for obvious reasons.
