Dean Kremer 2021

Recommended Posts

There were some rumors that they asked for May.

I wanted Lux and May in that deal.  Neither were top 100 guys at the time and both were in A ball.  I don’t know if they would have dealt either or both but Dan seemed to want quantity over quality (although I do like Kremer and Diaz).

Diaz was highly rated when we got him.

Are you telling me Dan didn’t ask about their better prospects? He shopped Manny around and took the best deal. Running out of time with a deadline looming.

Diaz is exhibit A of the limitations he had. Diaz cost the Dodgers a ton of money and then they use him to make a deal. Dan never had any talent like that.

Are you Dan's brother? We don't know exactly what deals were out there but looking at it now, it looks to be a pretty poor/mediocre trade. Kremer probably has a back of the rotation/Swingman on a bad team ceiling/floor and Diaz could possibly become an average regular at a corner OF spot if things break right. He may not have been able to get May or Verdugo but the Dodgers system was stocked full of talent and he didn't get any of those guys who weren't as hyped at the time. We know when he was shopping Britton at the 2017 deadline he wanted Colin Moran from the Astros. In his three years with the Pirates he's been at best a replacement level player. Not sure that would've been deemed a success. Dan did a decent job supplementing a roster full of Macphail/Buck players, but he was a terrible at identifying minor league talent in our system as well as other teams'.

No. He was my neighbors, cousins, best friends, college roommate.

The trade may not work out great. I just recall at the time how the media kept saying the Dodgers weren’t willing to give up their top guys.

I remember that talking point and it was reported everywhere that the Dodgers were not going to give up any of their top prospects in a trade. Hopefully DD took the best offer on the table for Machado even if the trade doesn't work out well long term.

Dan was not a great GM.

Definitely debatable. Hard to ignore 3 playoff appearances. Also hard to ignore running the organization into the ground the last couple years. But - ALSO hard to ignore Peter Angelos/Brady Anderson having a say in some of the worst decisions of Duquette's tenure.

Dan's era is complex and contains multitudes.

I like Dan.

Ok No point in rehashing it. He is gone, and the people who are glad he’s gone have plenty of grounds for their feelings.

Dan was a big part of ending 14 years of losing baseball for the O's.  I will always be grateful for that.

That's the question. What have been comparable returns to the Manny deal that got back more than Kremer/Diaz. I assume the deal we got from the Dodgers was the best that was offered. No reason to think otherwise. If you were the Dodgers, who do you give up for a couple months of Manny that is better than Kremer/Diaz? What are comparable rental deals that got back more? The bigger problem was DD did not trade Machado earlier when he had more value, but he was a lame duck GM with no incentive to do anything but try and win with the group he had.

Little surprised no one posted about his ineptitude. Pretty disappointing. Jorge Lopez bad. I’m starting to wonder if he’s a starter.

He’s not. One time through the order should be his limit.

In his last 3 ML starts, he has thrown a total of 8.2 IP.  He has given up 14 runs, 16 hits, 2 homers, 8 walks and struck out 10.
