Not sure I understand. He literally was brought up to be a long guy. He's here to try and eat innings in games just like this.

I think after the 2nd inning when he started to get knocked around is when you make the change. The third inning was a little too "take one for the team" for my liking for a guy just getting called up. It's not like the bullpen was that taxed. I dunno, it's no biggie I guess.

If that’s the case Hyde / Elias are dumber than I thought,  His stuff was only going to work for 1-2 innings and I’m pretty sure that’s what he pitched in Norfolk.

I get it, and it's understandable that no ones wants to see a guy get knocked around, but he's only in the big leagues because this team needs someone to eat innings.

Three seconds of research would tell you he pitched 3 or more innings in five of his 8 appearances this season in the minors and was previously a starter. Calling Hyde/Elias dumb when you don't have your facts straight doesn't look good.

With a knuckleballer on the team, you have to expect this.

If everything is good and the pitch is working, they can be dominating.  If things aren't good and the pitch isn't doing what it should, they get blasted.   Such is the nature of the knuckleball.

Pretty sure Tony said he doesn’t have a knuckler that “dances”, it’s got some vertical movement. Apparently, not enough.

Ok fine, but it doesn't matter to me.  He got through 2 innings with only 1 ER.  Hyde should have realized the Blue Jays weren't going to be fooled the second time through the order.   Not that that would have changed the outcome.  But I think there's value in a pitcher having a decent outing in his first major league start and not pressing your luck.

One thing about knucklers: on the days the pitch isn’t working, the pitcher becomes extremely vulnerable.   Let’s hope yesterday was just one of those days for Jannis.

Yeah. I am rooting for him but if it were easy, everyone would do it. Fun to watch though and we suck so bad, who cares. He obviously needs to do better than that but we will see.
