Two Players get life suspension.

Recommended Posts

The Dominican baseball league just announce that RP Ambiorix Burgos and INF Felix Martinez are suspended for life because of misbehavior in and out of the field during last year's tournament.

Burgos: Was accused of intentionally killing two women in his hometown Nagua and was just sentence to a one year in prison by a new york court for domestic violence.

Martinez: Has a long record of incident with umpires, players and regular people off the field being the last a shooting duel in Nagua's central park where thanks god nobody got hurt.

Do you think MLB should do the same not only with them but whoever disrespect the game like A-rod, Bonds, Clemens, Tejada, etc.?

Well, it's not like the whole steroids/PED topic hasn't been beaten to death a hundredfold on here or anything. You're not really going to convince anyone to change their minds about it. Some people think that the guys like Rodriguez, Tejada, and Clemens should be banned for life and have their statistical numbers stripped. Some people think that we should just accept the steroid era and move on.

Personally, I don't think that Rodriguez, Tejada and Clemens should be banned for life from MLB. I think there should be an escalating scale of punishment for testing positive for steroids and other PED, with a lifetime ban occurring after the third positive test.

Also, I don't really see what a convicted killer and someone who opens fire in public have to do with players who used performance enhancing drugs.

That is a good point

Granted, my Spanish is still crude, but as I understood the couple articles I read (like the link below from the league's official website), the players were suspended indefinitely, not for life.

Martinez' club actually forfeited a game in the Dominican finals this January to protest his latest suspension for going after an umpire. He's a chronic offender to be sure, but I think a lifetime ban would be too severe based on what I know. (I wasn't previously aware of his involvement in a shooting. That could sway my opinion).

Burgos, on the other hand, does not deserve the wonderful opportuntity to be a professional baseball player anymore if you ask me. He was just convicted of assaulting his girlfriend in NY a year or two ago, which was the first of many things that got him released by the Mets. The fatal hit and run that allegedly may have been intentional is just despicable.

I certainly wouldn't lump A-Rod, Bonds, Clemens or Tejada in with a guy like that. Totally different situations.

If you banned everyone who did steroids, the quality of play in the ML would drop drastically. Canseco estimated that 80% of the league was using steroids.,

Impacto Deportivo is pretty unreliable in my experience. They don't seem to source very thoroughly. They 'broke' a couple hot stove stories and were very wrong on them.
