Where's the strangest place you've ever run into an O's player?

Recommended Posts

Saw Angelos @ Ikarus in Greek Town.

Ponson at No Way Jose

Gary Thorne at Blue Moon - his voice is the same.

Friend of mine found Gibbons' DL on the ground in Canton

Other notable players

David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez at Babalu

Arod and his (then) wife walked between me and my parents downtown.

George Brett in a hotel

Best place in the world to meet athletes:

Dr. Andrew's office in Birmingham AL.

When I was in there there were a couple minor league guys, in the rehab facility a bunch of professional wrestlers, I sat on the arm bike next to HHH a couple times. Plus Andrews has his walls full in every exam room of pretty much anyone you can think of.

I saw Rick Dempsey at an Allman Brothers concert at Merriweather last summer.

Now that is awesome!

A group of my friends and I went down to Tampa a couple years back to watch a Ravens game in September and the O's were in town playing the Rays. We ran into Luis Matos at a bar and he ended up coming with us to a strip club. He hung out with us until about 2am. Cool guy.

Adam Jones: I met him on the walk down the ramps from the upper deck after the Colts-Ravens game in November of 2009. I had my Earl Morrall jersey on, and he had his Johnny Unitas jersey on. He was talking on his cell phone, so I patted him on the back, smiled, gave him the thumbs-up signal, and he smiled back at me.

Brad Bergesen and Jason Berken: They introduced themselves to me when I was allowed onto the field at OPACY for batting practice in 2011.

Rick Dempsey: I met him on the same day as I met Bergesen and Berken. After we left the playing field, we were both waiting for the elevator. I said "Hi, Mr. Dempsey." He dug my Oriole mask and my Oriole rally monkey. He briefly told me and the other fans that were waiting for the elevator that it was good to see us, and that we needed to have a bigger fan base. :)

Cal Ripken, Jr.: At Borders Books in mid-town Manhattan in 2011. He was signing copies of his newly-released book, "Hothead." I had several pictures taken of us together. The coolest thing about that day was the fact the in mid-town Manhattan in February there were thousands and thousands of Oriole fans dressed in orange and black, walking around the heart of the city for several hours in the middle of the afternoon.

I ran into Sidney Ponson on a Friday night at a Baja Beach Club beer tub.  On a night he pitched.  And didn't make it out of the fifth inning.  About five minutes before the game ended.

I had to restrain an inebriated and passionate friend from approaching Ponson to let him know what a POS he was for putting more effort into getting to the front of the beer tub line than he did on the mound that night.

Same establishment, this time the parking garage.  I was with the same group of guys when we recognized Scott Erickson walking up through the garage puzzled.  We said hello to him and he said, "What's up?  Feel like helping me find my truck? (I believe it was a black SUV)"  We did and he said, "Thanks fellas!  Where you guys headed from here?"  He was totally looking to keep the night going, but we were all headed to meet back up with the ladies and had no interest in inviting that kind of competition to the party.

    • Not saying it isn't, but AAA will be the first year we assume he will be using the MLB ball if AAA in 2020 will still be using the same balls. I'm glad Wells continues to beat expectations at every level but being a soft tosser still concerns me and probably always will. Wonder how many innings they give him with the big league club next year in spring training before they option him out to minor league camp?
    • I don't think Preston is giving enough of an adjustment because of weather conditions.  MVP candidate Russell Wilson played worse, against a statistically worse pass defense.
    • I agree. But it's been interesting to me to meet Y fans who found him so annoying that they're glad to be rid of him. They usually cite the fact that he made so many pitching changes and slowed the game down so much it became boring to them.
    • Something similar happened to me and another O's fan visiting from Vegas at the first 2012 playoff game at Yankee Stadium (the one in which Flaherty and Manny hit homers, Adam misplayed Jeter's fly into a RBI-triple, and Ibanez hit the game-tying and -winning homers in the 9th and 12th innings off of Jim Johnson and Matusz after Miguel Gonzalez had pitched his typically Yankee-killer gem). Beer wasn't thrown on us (we were in the bleachers and those fans wd never waste their Bud Light mead)--just the empty blue plastic bottles. We needed a two-officer escort from the water fountain all the way down the ramps. They also mocked my race. The other fan was a young white man and had flown in to bet on the game, and lost. There was a nice Canadian woman behind us who said she was rooting for the Y's, but hated Yankee fans.... I have some some cool photos. Nonetheless, I loved that season and series.
    • This is what he had to say: Lamar Jackson struggled passing most of the game and it appears that the league has figured out how to take away some of his easy throws. He threw behind and low to a lot of receivers. As usual, he remains the team’s top offensive weapon with his legs. Jackson isn’t a complete quarterback yet, but he can make big plays from anywhere on the field. Grade: C+ ————————————————————————- Honestly he’s pretty accurate.
