Arizona Fall League rosters announced

Recommended Posts

Where will Arrieta be starting next season? He will be facing mostly AA and AAA hitters in the Fall League. If he is successful, could he be in Bowie to start next season? A rotation of Erbe, Arrieta, Spoone, Hernandez, Berken in AA would be pretty good.

I think you should put Bascom in there instead of Erbe. Erbe needs another year at Frederick.

With Rowell missing quite a bit of time this year, do you think they should have sent him to the AFL? If they did, would you have been upset with their decision?

I think it's more appropriate perhaps to send him to Hawaii, where I've seen the lower-level guys who need off-season playing time end up. The AFL is more AA/AAA level with the rare single-A guy (one is allowed as previously mentioned, Arrieta this year for us).

I seem to remember that MASN picked up several Hawaii Winter League games last year. Not that it is a huge factor, but it would be nice to see Wieters and a few others, like Rowell go to play winter ball there so we can catch them on tv. And heres to hoping the AFL makes more of an appearance on tv as well this year.

Need some help from the "way back machine". I think 1992 we had 3 of 5

"overall" top players at the end of the AFL...Brad Pennington...Mark Smith

and I do not remember the 3rd player....

Our other guys in the league that year were Damon Buford, John O'Donoghue, and Steve Scarsone. I would assume the third guy was Buford.

This is one of the best, if not the best group, of prospects that the Orioles have ever sent. All of these players are still prospects. In years past, we have sent scrubs.

Of course, Reimold and Fiorentino both played in the AFL last year, putting up numbers that initially were great but they both faded as the AFL season progressed. As repeaters I'd be deeply disappointed if they were not among the league leaders this time around.

I'm especially glad Penn and Johnson will be there.

I'm excited to see what Penn/Johnson will do. I'm a little surprised about Arrieta being on the list, but I guess it makes sense to give him work somewhere. I am particularly happy to see Paco make the AFL. Its a testament of the hardwork the kid puts in day in and day out. He's a great guy, and an even greater mascot... I'll just leave it at that.

After Erbe's year in Frederick, I'd be surprised if he was in Bowie next year, and just as surprised if he were good there.

That's correct, Paco won't be going to Arizona next month. Instead he'll begin rehabbing his shoulder in Miami in order to be 100% prepared for spring training. Paco had a good season atop the Baysox lineup, it's just a shame that the injury bug bit him as often as it did. He played excellent defense at 2B and always found a way to get on base and score runs. Very fun player to watch.

I'm not that wild about the roster. Arrieta has yet to throw a pitch and they're rushing him up to what- a double-A level league.? Seems lie a great way to risk an injury becaise he may feel he'll have to bear down extra hard.

On the flip side of the coin, Reimold should be pushed a little higher that this. Maybe send him to one of the Latin winter leagues where the competition's a little rougher? Same for Fiorentino who's a little long in the tooth for this league. He s/also get pushed a little more.Johnson too.

I thought organizations were limited to one A ball player in the AFL. Is Arrieta being moved to the Bowie roster so he'll still be eligible?

    • Bleier trade continues to bite the O's last night.  Fry  could not find the plate especially against right-handed batters. Needing to face three batter in not Fry's game.    It didn't affect the outcome because the O's didin't  hit.  However, Fry does not look up to being the 2nd lefties in the pen  which shows how much the O's miss Bleier.  Fry would be a candidate to be sent down but there is no lefty to replace him so he will probably stay in the majors.
    • SummerSlam ‘92 is on FS1.  Quarantine + Nostalgia = Mullet for backwardsk ?
    • I missed another game. My sleep schedule sleep patterns are SOOOOOOOO screwed up... I laid down for a quick nap before the game about 4:30. When I woke up at MIDNIGHT I had missed the entire thing. Turned on the TV to watch the 11:30 replay and THANK GOD the Gnats are back playing! They're the replay tonight... fml     So.... I'm not going to read the thread or the board. Or Roch. It's 1:30 am. I'm having my "morning" glass of coffee (yes BIG TALL GLASS) and I'm going to watch the 9 am MASN replay "live". So I have THAT going for me. 🙃 GO O'S!!!!

    • Now that does make sense: greater risk, greater reward. So do healthy pitchers make more than healthy batters? Serious question.
    • On his pro-rated salary, Cobb would earn @ $4.5MM the rest of this season. That would be nothing for a contending team to take on if they were sold on him putting them over the top. But I can't imagine being so desperate on August 4, 10 games into a 60 game season if I were a decision maker to take on the entirety of his contract.  If a team really wants to gamble a little bit of cash on Cobb to win this year's WS, they may be wrangled into taking half the burden on the 2021 salary, while the Orioles pay half of this season's $4.5MM remaining. This is starting to sound too good to be true!
