Spring training may help a younger guy get noticed by some people who may not have seen them before. But overall, I think almost all of these guys have a pretty good idea where they are going before they arrive in Florida/Arizona.

How Stowers and Cowser can Make the Roster
clapdiddy replied to Aristotelian's topic in Orioles Talk
I'd have no problem with this. There is enough versatility with the infield that this shouldn't be a problem. -
Agreed. If by mid-season he's still struggling in Aberdeen, then I'll be concerned.
-
Wow...Tony ranked higher than such notables as Mark Teixiera, Cito Gaston, Rich Garcia, and Keith Law. Wonder how that could be?
-
I think they've made great strides under Elias. That new facility in the DR isn't going to hurt, either.

Could Mike Baumann be pitching his way into high leverage situations?
clapdiddy replied to Tony-OH's topic in Orioles Talk
Baumann has better "stuff". I think Tate is ok, but I would not want him in high-leverage situations. -
Personally, I'd just prefer another good reliever...don't care if they are left-handed or right-handed. Perez and Coulombe are fine in their roles.
-
Sorry...but who are you comparing to Urias?
-
Just thinking of a Burnes/Bradish/Rodriguez top of the rotation sounds pretty dominant to me. Heck, it actually might be a Rodriguez/Burnes/Bradish 1-2-3.
-
Agreed. Lorenzen doesn't move the needle. If you are going to acquire a pitcher, acquire one that's a difference maker.
-
After the top 4, I'm not really confident. Well, I'm not 100% confident with Cano, either. Kimbrell and the two lefties are the only two that I somewhat trust to be productive, if used in the right way. The rest of these guys are a crapshoot.
-
I don't know that he's "beloved" or that they just think they can still use him while he's relatively cheap. I don't know what good putting him at 2B is, other than that maybe they are looking at offers for Urias and want to see if he can play there.
-
Agreed. Spending money on a guy like Lorenzen seems like a bad idea to me. If you are going to make a move, make it a significant one...not something that doesn't move the needle.
-
I picked option 3. I think his ability to hit lefties MAY play some sort of role in their decision making, but I'm not sure it's that big of a deal. You have versatile guys in Urias, Westburg, and Gunnar that can start against lefties. Heck, if Mateo somehow sticks around as an IF/OF, you have even more depth. I trust the management of this team to make the right decisions.

I don't think Buster is a Boras mouthpiece. I think what he says makes a lot of sense. One of those arms on a Bellinger-style contract would be a great fit for this team right now.
-
Dude looks like he throws an "easy" 97. Doesn't look like a lot of effort on the pitches in this video.
-
For one or both? Seriously doubt this is the case, but I wouldn't be surprised to see both of these guys go the Bellinger route.
-
Montgomery could pitch there. Sure, his numbers would be worse there than on the road, but he'll be fine.

All the talk about Cowser and Kjerstad…but what about Stowers?
clapdiddy replied to Sports Guy's topic in Orioles Talk
We could see a couple of years of this, provided all stay healthy. Don't know what the future holds for Adley and Gunnar, but having those 5 at the top of the order for a couple of years would be incredible if they all reach their potential. Then, you throw in possible guys like Kjerstad, Cowser, Bradfield....sheesh. -

I would agree. Cowser is a very good prospect, but Mayo has the chance to be a real masher. If both he and Basallo continue their progression, the two of them hitting back to back in the middle of the order would be awesome (if you're not pitching to them!). -
I prefer Santander. O'Hearn scares me every time a ball is hit his way.
-
I feel ok about the lefty options. It's the right-handers that give me pause.
