I truly wish they'd just give Ortiz a week straight of playing time right now at SS. See what he can do. he can't possibly hit worse than Mateo has over the last 2 months.

Agree with @Moose Milligan take here. Right now, since Mountcastle has options, it seems the best place for him to be is in Norfolk. Maybe he can swing a hot bat down there and get back, but the trend is not his friend. I would prefer Hicks over him...right now. O'Hearn can play first against RHP and Urias/Santander can against LHP. If Hicks comes down from his cloud, Mouncastle is a move away. I still would love to find a way to get Cowser up here as well.

I kind of agree with this. Unless something happens with one of their starters, I don't see them trading anyone from the 25-man roster. I would be more inclined to strike while the iron is hot with Santander or Hays, but I think that time will happen in the offseason.

The good thing would be that they'd all still be available. I think you can find enough AB's for all of them...except McKenna.

Personally, I'd like to see Westburg, Cowser, AND Ortiz up here and all starting.

I don't quite understand the Watkins "love". He's got a 7+ ERA in Norfolk with an almost 2 WHIP.

If they just bring up Cowser, the OF defense will improve once Mullins is back. I would assume Cowser will play LF and Hays will be in RF, relegating Santander to DH/1B.

Just went to Baseball Savant and looked at this. As I suspected, the only position player with a positive OAA was Mateo. Frazier is pretty awful on this measurement.

Goldschmidt is signed through next season. He'd be getting 26M + potential bonuses.

I think I'd hand SS over to Ortiz and let him play himself out of it. Though I love Mateo's glove, Ortiz deserves a chance to see if he can be an upgrade. In the meantime, I think it would be nice to see Ortiz play 2B and Mateo to play SS against LHP.
