  1. That’s a bit disappointing if true. I can understand Witt, that was more of a true flier given his situation. But for a HS kid like this, I would have hoped Elias and team would have been more in tune with what it would take to sign guys away from college commitments before drafting them. If they didn’t know, this is literally a wasted pick.
  2. I am assuming we’ll see an official announcement on these two guys as well as coresponding roster shuffling at some point later today or perhaps tomorrow. Similar to the big club, the core minor league teams don’t resume playing until tomorrow. I don’t think anything has been publicly released yet. Jackson was pretty coy when he was interviewed live during the Futures Game and asked about the Orioles young core and all the promotions they’ve made, but you could kind of see in his face that he already knew.
  3. This guy looks like he has that dog in him. Hopefully the bite matches the bark. Love this pick based on what I’m reading.
  4. I said this in the main 2023 Holliday thread, but I kind of saw his promotion to Bowie coming. He’d already said after his early successes at ABD that he was looking forward to the next challenge. Coupled with the fact that his stated goal for the season was to reach AA, I think the FO felt the time was right, obviously. He was stagnating in ABD (I used the term “bored” and a couple of posters scoffed at me). What ever you want to call it, it was time. He’s up for the move. There may be a week or two of adjusting, but I expect him to exceed expectations in AA too. Hasn’t even been a full year since we’ve drafted him and we should all be ecstatic he’s pushed his way to AA already. It’s Machado-esque. Putting my Orioles colored glasses down, I think he’d very much be in the running for a September call-up, if he continues to prove he can handle it. It’s hard to doubt this kid, but he’ll have to really earn the next bump up.
  5. McDermott leads the Eastern Lg in BAA but he’s a year older and I like Povich from the left side a little better, so I’ll go with him if you’re asking 10 years from now, which has had the more valuable career. Anyone know what option years are remaining for each of these 3 guys? Are they each out of them after next season?
  6. When I spoke with him at Twin Lakes the first week of March, he told me he worked hard all offseason and he trained at some local colleges in Texas close to where he’s from with several other players. I think he said he got to Sarasota and began working out there in mid Jan if memory serves correct.
  7. Is it really though? We’ve seen plenty of times where guys aren’t being challenged enough, and with a move up, we see the stagnation come to an end and the production starts to trend back upwards. I’m talking across the board, not just in our system. While I don’t have the names to back it up on tap, I think there’s more than my anecdotal account to back that up with.
  8. To your point, who’s to say he even needs a brush to paint with. “Jackson Pollock-day”, if you will.
  9. I’m glad to see Hernandez playing well. Hopefully this is a sign he’s putting it all together. Time will tell. He was another guy that really stood out with the bat (along with Willems and Basallo) when I spent a full day at Twin Lakes back in early March watching minor league campers. Also, glad to see Elias read my post back on June 10th, suggesting Showalter wouldn’t spend much more time in Sarasota!
  10. Like any teenager these days, especially one of his pedigree, when things don’t move as fast as they’d probably like to see, I’m sure it’s hard to maintain success at a level he probably feels like is below where he wants to be.

    Coby Mayo 2023

Gotta love the on base streak. Would be a shame to lose one of his biggest assets (his cannon for an arm) with a move to 1B. If he doesn’t stick a 3B, I’m hoping for RF. My unprofessional scouting opinion is that I think he can stick at 3rd. He’s athletic enough. Just needs to continue to improve his footwork and timing so that the actions required at 3rd become more instinctual for him. When he has to think about things, that’s when he seems to get into trouble at the hot corner.
  12. Quite frankly, I think he’s just bored in Aberdeen now. Even if it is a mini-slump, I think seeing Fabian getting moved up will fire him up a bit and act as motivation. I expect another hot streak very soon and a move to Bowie before the end of July. Related, I think if they moved him to AA now as is, he’d handle it well. Not suggesting that they should do that, just a hunch I have after watching how he’s handled himself this year. Very impressed watching him in person for a week at ST and in about 1/4 of his games on MiLB.tv.
  13. Showalter with another nice outing today. 3IP, 0H, 3BB and 7K’s. I suspect he won’t be long in Sarasota if he keeps this up seeing how he’s about to be on the downslope to the ripe old age of 20 (born Jan 2004). Let him finish up this year in Delmarva and start his age 20 season there.
  14. I caught the tail end of the Delmarva game this eve on MiLB.tv. Creed was in uniform and out in the post game celebratory win line giving high fives to his teammates. So whatever the injury is, it must not be too awful.
  15. No Willems again tonight. As others said must not be too serious since they haven’t IL’d him (yet), but still seems odd. Btw, I met him at ST. Went to Twin Lakes for a day in mid March. I was the only fan there that day. Very likable guy. Took the time to talk baseball and what the ST experience is like in between live BP sessions. He and Basallo stood out from the crowd. Hitting tanks all over the place. I’ve been wanting to post this sooner, but based on what I saw firsthand I could sense a breakout was coming from Creed. Both of them were nice enough to autograph a baseball for me. Basallo is freaking huge. I’m 6’ 4” 200 lbs and I felt small near him. Crazy he’s only 18.
  16. I’d love to help. I could put together a package with some unopened product as well as a mix of some starter cards, including some O’s - past, present and future. Feel free to shoot me a message.
  17. Pretty sure Adley will make Update. I think they’ll hold Gunnar’s RC until 2023 series one so it’s more marketable and it’s flagship.
  18. Ha, just have to be lucky and get the right ones from unopened product. Or have enough money to buy them outright now after someone’s pulled them . Crazy how much his cards have skyrocketed in value this year. I was very fortunate that I loaded up on his 2019 stuff long ago.
  19. I wonder what Mateo was thinking and what his gut reaction/facial expression showed when he saw Gunnar put on this display?
  20. Thank you for this. I’d forgotten to check the Topps site today. I’m loading up on these. Will go nicely with the 100+ 2019 Bowman Gunnar 1sts I have. Also have two 2019 Bowman Adley/Gunnar Franchise Futures dual autograph cards numbered to #99 and graded 9.5 by BGS and SGC
  21. That double play he just turned in the bottom of the 4th against CLE. Wow. The range, quickness, agility and cannon of an arm all on full display.
  22. Grayson taken out after walking two straight batters with one out in the 2nd and 31 pitches. Hope he’s OK.
  23. If he gets much work above 2 innings/roughly 40 pitches tomorrow I’ll be surprised. I realize he’s been throwing for a month, but cmon…this is the Os we’re talking about lol. His season high on pitches is 88, so I really doubt he’ll be at 90-100 within the next couple starts. They treated him with kid gloves all season, now you really have to kid glove him to shorten the risk of further injury or reaggrevation.
  24. I posted this quote from the Sun in another thread. Sorry, I do not have the link readily available. “If Henderson maintains his top prospect status from this midseason update through the offseason, it would be the first time since the publication began rankings in 1990that two No. 1 prospects came from the same organization’s draft class.”
  25. GW walk off RBI line drive single to CF in the bottom of the 10th tonight to nightcap his 2B and HR earlier in the game. He’s got to be getting the call up next Wednesday the 24th, right?
