  1. This is the first time I've seen him pitch. To be honest I wasn't expecting much but he was just dialed in. He has a solid, compact, delivery and I like the way he works up in the zone. He made good pitches and his command was outstanding. Can't wait to see if he can keep this up!
  2. The Jackson Holliday experience this year and the Colton Cowser experience last year are good cautionary tales for those who advocate for veterans to be moved en masse in favor of calling up our top prospects. While I'm confident that Holliday will be fine in the long term, he is overmatched and needs adjustment. Maybe he gets on track in the next 10 or 15 games, or maybe he needs to be sent back down to work things out in a lower pressure environment? Whatever they do, I'm glad Elias and company are the team we have in place to make those decisions.
  3. No. They lead the American League in runs scored despite only having played 16 games. Nine other teams have played 17 or 18 games. Their walk rate will normalize over time.
  4. I don't mind the new posters so much, its the veterans with thousands of posts who are quick to make absolute declarations about the ultimate value – or lack thereof – of a player based on an extremely small sample size. Those are the ones who frustrate me.
  5. To the extent these things mean anything, last year Mullins hit .242 with a .335 OBP out of the leadoff position. Batting 6th he hit .333 with a .372 OBP.
  6. Can confirm. Sports Guy is the leading Poster on the St. Maria Goretti High School Gaels Lacrosse page.
  7. Isn't this just a repeat of your Mullins thread? I can't wait for the Hays thread... or did I miss that one?
  8. I think knowing how many wins the wall saved or cost us would be important data points to substantiate your position.
  9. How many more wins do you think we'd have had in 2023 if the wall wasn't moved back? Would we have broken the 1969 record of 109?
  10. WAR is the equivalent of the gnostic gospels, from the Greek, gnostikos, or "having knowledge." (I knew that seminary training would finally pay off!)
  11. While imperfect, they are much better than the "eye test" alone.
  12. This is a bit like arguing how many angels can fit on the head of a pin.
  13. Any truth to the rumor that you've requested “R. Kelly” as your new screen name? Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  14. You should have to run laps for this thread title and post!
  15. Wait? This is an April Fools joke? I just ordered his jersey. Curse you Moose!
  16. Hicks looked completely lost in his at-bats against Rodriguez.
  17. I picked a good day to renew my MLBTV package!
  18. I've got a good feeling about this season.
  19. Given a choice, I'll take better production over better talent. What does preferring talent over production even mean? We lose more games, but look better doing it. Sounds like you're making a News Max invalid deductive argument.
  20. Beautifully written Roy. Your words speak for a lot of us who were touched by his kindness and inspired by his example. He was one in a million and there will never be another quite like him.
  21. He also brought in Eve Rosenbaum as Assistant GM.
  22. Elias must be playing some kind of 3-D Vulcan chess with this move.
  23. I think Mateo should concentrate on crowding the plate and inducing more HBP to up his on base percentage.
  24. There’s a lot that could be said, and has been said about Peter Angelos and his ownership of the Orioles. But as Tony has pointed out, now is not really the time for that. I remember when Angelos bought the team and how relieved and grateful I was that someone from Baltimore was buying it and was committed to keeping it in Baltimore. I’m not from Baltimore, but I spent three years living near there when my Dad was stationed at Ft. Meade. He took me to my first Orioles game at Memorial Stadium when I was 5 years old in 1966 and that was the beginning of a lifetime bond with the city and the team. I’m profoundly grateful that Angelos kept the team in Baltimore. I'm glad someone who was such an integral part of the life and fabric of the city ended up owning the team. He was a larger than life character, and faults and all, he was as quintessentially Baltimorean as Old Bay Seasoning, Blue Crabs, and Natty Boh. RIP Mr. Angelos.
