Testament to my cynicism is that Montreal is on the short list for expansion teams. Did they just intend for the Expos to go on a long sabbatical? I don’t think they are actively trying to move the O’s out of Baltimore, but they sure aren’t trying to help them stay.

They just need an excuse to do it. The die was cast the day they moved the Expos. MLB cares less than zero about Camden yards, history, etc. The minute they can optimize their revenue growth potential without taking more than a few days hit of negative press they will do it.

The 13 year old boy in me was thinking the other day that Felix needs to blow a few now so that he doesn’t decide to pick October as the time to be normal. Yawn…my take home is that we can run with these dudes and they need a miracle to beat us. Granted, I didn’t actually watch the critical innings because I had to make dinner and have a “conversation” with my SO.

Nothing good is coming next (except hopefully a visit to the World Series this year). We are either stuck with this crap, hoping that great people wander in for a few years before they realize what is up. Or our owner really has gone off the deep end to the point that MLB decides they need to take action. If that is the case, I have zero faith that the action will simply be to replace the owner. Moving the team out of the Nats market seems the much more obvious choice.

Whatever.

It could get quite amusing as Kevin Brown says increasingly sardonic things about the past trying to get fired.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kevin Brown is getting offers tonight. The A’s are looking for someone. Heck, outside of Dave Flemming the Giants broadcast team is getting mature, and there have been retirement rumors.

For my 13th birthday my mom took me to the baseball card store in the Aspen Hill shopping center (it was next to the magic store) and bought me the Topps team set for the ‘83 Orioles. At first I put the cards in individual plastic holders organized in a binder. But I quickly ditched that in favor of my old filing system—by player held together with rubber bands. All except Tippy and Brother Low who I put together in my “specials” stack.

This is not a perfect comp, but the Dodgers kept Hanser Alberto all last year primarily because he was an awesome guy and kept everyone happy…well plus he pitched ten games for them. But then they happily left him off the post season roster in favor of the “dynamic rookie” Miguel Vargas.
