  1. Like in geopolitics, you don’t end the season with the pitching you started with.
  2. Is it just me or are our pitchers either awesome or horrendous? At multiple scales, from throwing non-competitive balls miles from the zone, to what we just saw.
  3. Connor Joe is like the AI name for someone from Poway.
  4. It’s too contrived. “Give that fan a contract” became formulaic tradition but it started out as spontaneous fun.
  5. Mateo and Stowers have created a localized black hole.
  6. Even last year, I never thought he exactly knew where everything was going. He was riding a grove. If he just throws a tad fewer 50 footers, gets a bit more just outside the zone, and mixes in a few more nasty strikes in a beguiling sequence he will be golden. Easier said than done, LOL.
  7. On a related note, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is super cool. Well, it’s mostly depressing, but still super cool.
  8. Soto currently has a pedestrian .776 OPS, plus I just watched him boot a languid fly ball that was ruled a “double”.
  9. I horded Vida’s card just because I liked his name. It wasn’t until later that I really appreciated him.
  10. It’s difficult to understand the complex layers here. Was it just a slip of the tongue? A slip influenced by easy use of the word in years past? Does Glen only really relate with Black folk when they are exceptional athletes in a museum? Who knows? But the quote from Bob Kendrick in the article above seems the best response: . "I welcomed Glen to the NLBM yesterday and know he was genuinely excited to be here. The word is painful and has no place in our society. And while I don't pretend to know Glen's heart I do know that my heart is one of forgiveness. I hope all of you will find it in yourselves to do the same!"
  11. At some point during the season I decide for myself whether the team is lost for good, mediocre, or is going to contend until the end. I have too much O’s fan baggage to decide just yet, but this series did nothing to dissuade me from hoping we are contenders.
  12. On the Giants broadcast today, Jon Miller recalled the time Fenway fans gave Vida a standing ovation when he left the game during his magical ‘71 season.
  13. I feel like in years past MLB TV blacked out the FOX broadcasts? Of course, now they just block out the Apple TV , etc. games.
