  1. Moving next week from DC to Fairfax County and finally fed up with cable and the price increases that I want to try the combination of MLBTV package plus VPN. Anyone who has gone the same route have a good VPN recommendation?
  2. I think you probably could for the first ten days of the season. We don't need a fifth starter until April 7th.
  3. I want the extra year. Particularly when it means that Mayo or Cowser could make the team. If we did not have other great options for our 25 man roster, I would look at it a little differently. There is too much to gain and too little to lose by sending Holliday down to Norfolk for a few weeks.
  4. Holliday and Mayo likely don't both break with the team without some trades occurring. The scenario I presented has Holliday (the younger, less experienced prospect) starting in Norfolk. Don't think it's that much of a reach.
  5. Clear is debatable? But your starting infield could theoretically be 1B Mountcastle/O'Hearn, 2B Westburg, SS Henderson, and 3B Mayo. The 1B and DH also gives Mayo some flexibility to get starts there. Under this scenario, Urias is my utility infielder and Mateo is backing up CF and SS but primarily used as a pinch runner and late defensive replacement. The challenge then could then be finding a spot for Kjerstad. Also have to consider that not every position player projected for the big league roster is guaranteed to be healthy on OD. So additional spots could open up.
  6. Fabian at 61 is wild. Too many red flags there. I wonder if he will even make it as a fourth outfielder.
  7. I wouldn't say the price definitely went up. If the White Sox are still inclined to move Cease, they may be willing to lower their ask as we get closer to OD. Or not. But I wouldn't say their price went up, based on the O's internal situation.
  8. I think the definition of prototypical leadoff hitter has changed. It leans more towards OBP than speed in 2024. I think Gunnar will be the first one to ten starts at leadoff, but Jackson Holliday will be get the most over the course of the season.
  9. I don't think McKenna would make it through waivers. He put up a .677 OPS last year and that's not terrible for a fourth/fifth outfielder who is capable of playing center. He's relatively young. But that's a good thing. Recent O's teams have not recently had to dump a lot of players, that were quickly scooped up by other teams. Speaks to our depth.
  10. I understand wanting to get a player like Cowser every day at bats in Norfolk rather than being a fourth outfielder, but I really think we need to move away from these pure defensive replacements taking up roster spots. We should be able to rotate guys enough (like the Rays do), so that we have strong players getting regular playing time throughout our positional roster. For me, it's just kind of hard to justify having guys like Cowser, Norby, and soon to be others, rotting away at Triple A because of the need to keep the Hillards and McKennas of the world on the roster. Mateo is enough for me. I would like to see an OD roster where Kjerstad, Cowser, and Mayo all make the team.
  11. You may disagree with it, but keeping Holliday in Triple A for a few weeks to likely gain an extra year of control isn’t arbitrary. He could also use some defensive seasoning at a new position. Despite what Elias says in an interview, I think he’s already made his mind up about Holliday, pending dramatic events. Whether that’s having him out there on OD or not, I have no idea.
  12. I think we have too many high upside guys stuck in the high minors to be wasting roster spots on pure defensive replacements. Hays and Mateo can backup CF and potentially Cowser too. We are talking 1-2 games a week tops as Mullins will be in there most days.
  13. Have no problem with your locks, and I agree with them. The only near lock IMO is Mateo. I would put Kjerstad, Cowser, and Mayo all in the bubble category. I think two out of these three will make the roster. All three if there is an injury to one of our "lock" infielders or outfielders. I would make a separate "long shot" category and add Holliday, Norby, McKenna, Hilliard, Vavra, and Stowers to that.
  14. When is the last time you saw a left-handed throwing SS? You do realize that would be problematic as well? I realize you are mistaken and may have not seen any highlights of playing in the field, but not sure how it can be confused what arm the man throws with, given that he is an infielder (non-first baseman).
