After this season the O's will owe Davis $17 million for three more years plus $42 million in deferred payments through 2037, for a total of $93 million. In exchange for him retiring, I would offer him $5.5 million per year for 18 years (through 2037). That would give him a total of $99 million dollars, $6 million more than he'll receive under the current arrangement. Chris gets paid. The annual amount doesn't cripple the team's budget. Since he'd make more money, the union should accept it.

If the Indians are still interested in contending, send them Mancini, Cashner and cash for one of the 10 middle infielders among their top 30 prospects (according to MLB Pipeline). We need middle infield depth throughout the system. Mancini and Cashner could help them to a wildcard spot.

When our prospects become players and prove that all they need to succeed is to be supplemented by a few good players. There is no reason to acquire veterans until then. -

I don't think they picked him to send him down, but that could be where we are now. He could be a utility guy or minor league depth to be called up in case of injury. He could play pro ball for a while in either of those roles. -

I'd like to see him in AAA next year so he could get a little development help. It's awful tough to develop a hitter at the major league level. At 24, he's still just a kid.
