Kyle Bradish Has Sprained UCL, Will Start Season On IL
MurphDogg replied to DrinkinWithFermi's topic in Orioles Talk
Just circling back on this one. You think Gunnar is going to be off crutches by Opening Day? -
If the O's make the playoffs, I expect him to be doing that this October.
-
Someone asked Keith Law about Basallo in his chat today, and I thought his answer merited mention here. DH 1:52 Suppose Samuel Basallo were a solid average defensive 1B, and not a catcher. Where do you suppose he'd rank in top 100? Keith Law 1:52 Middle, probably 40-60 range. A #50-ish prospect at first base is still pretty good darn good!

There were two other women, one who sought a protective order against him and one who accused him of sexual assault.

Kyle Bradish Has Sprained UCL, Will Start Season On IL

Team - "Gunnar nursing syrained oblique, expected to miss 2-3 weeks". Brandon Hyde said he is not concerned at all about Henderson's health. You - "Gunnar will miss Opening Day, six weeks from today". -
No reason not to have a filled 40-man roster. May as well fill the dartboard. Plenty of options for guys to come off if Holliday makes the Opening Day roster.

Arbitration demands and offers to be exchanged next Friday (1/12)

Arbitration decisions for Hays and Webb are expected to come down today, per the Associated Press. -
Mayo hasn't played an inning in the outfield yet, will be interesting to see whether he does this spring.
-
Biggest surprise to me is the absence of any more outfielders (Fabian, Bradfield, Beavers, etc.). Can always bring guys over from minor league camp for the day, though.
-
I wonder if Jackson, Gunnar or Adley would be interested in a similar deal.
-
Keith Law's Top 100 prospects list is out. 1. Jackson Holliday 20. Samuel Basallo 27. Coby Mayo 62. Heston Kjerstad 64. Enrique Bradfield Law has long been a Joey Ortiz booster and has him at #58.

Arrested in 2019, prosecution deferred upon completion of a 52-week program. Arrested in 2023, the DA announced last month that they wouldn't pursue charges, but that doesn't preclude MLB from punishing him, which they almost certainly will. I would be surprised if he was signed before MLB punishment comes down.

Incorrect.

Louis Angelos sells Peter’s Law Firm to himself per The Baltimore Sun
MurphDogg replied to Roll Tide's topic in Orioles Talk
Not a single attorney who passed the bar in the last ten years, and all but four have been members of the bar since before 2000. Looks very much like a dying firm from the outside. -
Surprised that Chapman got less than Kimbrel.

Mostly I am surprised about the staying power of the hot dog race shirts. The O's have been pretty good at not making bobbleheads for their truly mediocre players. Probably the worst players to have bobbleheads have been Steve Pearce, Brian Matusz, Jerry Hairston and Nolan Reimold (although that was a set with Adam Jones and Nick Markakis).
-
I'm stoked for the Pride jersey. Happy to see they are going to all fans as opposed toas part of a specialty package, as pride merch has in the past. Beach towels are always useful. Bobbleheads look solid. Nice to see the return of hot dog race shirts. Another year without umbrellas, those are always the most useful giveaways. The caps are the only giveaways I never care for. I just don't like adjustable caps.

2024 International signing class tracker
MurphDogg replied to Tony-OH's topic in O's Amateur Draft and International Signings
That was my initial reaction as well. Hopefully there will be more quality players signing late than usual. -

One could argue that a few weeks to a couple months of Ortiz, Cowser and Kjerstad's primes were wasted at AAA last season. It seems clear that all three have nothing left to prove at that level and should be on a Major League roster on Opening Day, but barring trade or injury, only one will as of now.

They were way off on Means but dead on for Tate, within $100K for Mountcastle and Mullins and $200K for Irvin. Getting that close on the predictions for Mullins and Mountcastle is pretty impressive. -
Yeah, under the current roster construction, McKenna and Hilliard are competing for a single spot and Kjerstad and Cowser are competing for the other spot. I expect/hope for Kjerstad or Cowser to get regular starts at the expense of Mountcastle 2 of every 7 games, O'Hearn 2 of every 7 games, Santander 1 of every 7 games and Hays 1 of every 7 games.

Rubenstein is one of only 5 Marylanders on the Forbes 400. The other 4 are Annette Lerner (Ted's widow), Mitchell Rales, Jim Davis (cousin and business partner of Steve Bisicotti), and Dan Snyder. Bisciotti himself is no longer a Maryland resident, having moved to Florida. Not too many options for local billionaires.

Sounds like you need to embiggen your vocabulary.

I don't understand why anyone would want to non-tender Tate, unless you think he isn't structurally sound. He was a perfectly cromulent reliever in 2021 and 2022, will be making under $2M, and has options left if you are in a roster crunch. I know the bullpen was decent last year without him, but we still gave 23 and 2/3rds innings to Keegan Akin (6.85 ERA), 12 innings to Jorge Lopez (5.25 ERA), 9 innings to Logan Gillaspie (6.00 ERA) and a handful of innings to other sub-replacement level pitchers. $1.5M is not too much to pay for a known quantity as a middle reliever, especially one with options remaining. I feel the same way with Akin, he has been successful in the past and has options remaining. The Orioles aren't so destitute that they can't afford to spend a little bit more than the league minimum on players who may be your 6th to 10th best relievers. If they aren't among the 8 best, then send them down to AAA. There isn't a 40-man roster crunch, but if there is eventually, they can be non-tendered and their insurance value beats the alternative to giving innings to AAAA guys who haven't had the big league success that Tate and Akin have had. It also isn't like there are a bunch of prospects banging down the door at AAA who look like potential bullpen studs for the upcoming season like Bautista in 2021. None of the pitchers among our top 30 prospects are at the point where it makes sense to consider them as MLB bullpen options in 2024, although several will likely end up in the bullpen eventually.
