1. Grich and Lou Whitaker aren't just borderline cases — they're both well above the threshold for 2b. Dewey Evans should've gone in instead of teammate Jim Rice. Dick Allen is more of a borderline case — shy on traditional counting stat milestones and brutal on defense but still managing to put up 156 OPS+ and 58.7 career WAR over a 14 year career. If he hadn't been hung with a 'clubhouse cancer' tag, he'd probably get more love.
 2. It's naive to think this stops with him getting a hit.
 3. There are only two good options for Davis. He flatlines again and forces the O's to cut bait. Or he mashes for half a season at an .800+ OPS and Elias is able to move him to a surprise contender + a big chunk of salary for a couple of B prospects. Let's call those odds 99:1. Anything in between just drags this stoopid situation out longer.

 6.

Hey, thanks for the kind words and birthday wishes — though I must confess you went over my head with Les Rallizes Denudes.

Wife got me an Amon Düül II t-shirt (!!) as a birthday present, which I imagine you would appreciate.

 7.

Amos Moses, as in the Jerry Reed song? Congrats, sir — you now have my favorite handle on this site.

 8.

Thank you for the birthday rep!

 9.

Cool! You have any questions about the city, feel free to PM me. I've lived here @5 years. It'll be cool to have another O's fan in town once baseball season starts. Happy Holidays!

 10.

Hey, have you always been in Pittsburgh, or just recently moved here? I don't think I've ever noticed it as your location before.

 11. And all these years I thought our color guy was Sir James Palmer, the Australian parliamentarian. Turns out he died in 1871. How embarrassing! I'm sure whoever-this-pitcher-Palmer is, he gets this all the time.
 12. I've been watching the DVD set of the '79 series, and whenever they cut to Stanhouse — whose white-boy 'fro barely contained beneath his O's cap pales only in comparison to Oscar Gamble's — you can tell that he's a figure of immense amusement to Howard Cosell (who, incidentally, calls a great game). In game 2, top of the 8th, with Tippy relieving Palmer in a downpour, they cut to Stanhouse (who will go on to lose the game with 2 outs in the 9th) tossing in the bullpen. Cosell: "Colorful, flaky kinda guy ... Weaver has great faith in him." Yeah, right, Howard. I don't know if I've ever seen a pitcher take longer in between pitches than Stanhouse. At one point in the 9th, Keith Jackson points out that Stanhouse has been on the mound 4 minutes without throwing a pitch. They called Mike Hargrove "the human rain delay." I shudder to think how long an at-bat between Grover and Stanhouse would've taken.
 13.

Hey! You were MIA for a good long while. Good to see you back and posting.

 14.

You, sir, have a great name. I love sweetbreads.

 15.

Wedge, is that the 75 O's cap? I just ordered one from Amazon!
