  1. We don't even know if BAL ever offered on ERod at all, maybe there was no interest.
  2. ERod publicly stated he would have approved a trade to BAL, BOS and one other team, maybe MIA.
  3. Mountcastle didn't come off the IL until July 9 and he went on the IL June 10 so maybe you meant July 10??
  4. I admit I haven't read the entire recent posts re: last night but Hyde burned Webb AND Perez to get 3 outs and didn't let Perez come back out. That ultimately leads to Baumann in the 10th with a runner on, a recipe for a loss on BP management.
  5. Didn't Georgia commission someone to pursue a sale in 2022 before JA stopped it? Pretty sure that's true so we know what she wants to do. JA obviously wants the step up in basis before any sale to minimize capital gains. He asked for a 2 year lease extension vs the long term lease needed to gain access to the $600 M. He wants more State or Fed $$ to build a monument to his ego in Camden Corner. Keeping PA alive for now allows JA to pocket big profits now to pay inheritance taxes when the time comes while pursuing his Camden Corner dream. If/when that gambit fails, he pulls the plug, Georgia sells, and JA walks away richer.
  6. Ubaldo pothole, tired arm, lower back soreness, twisted ankle, Ohtani PTSD, etc. Where there is a will there is a way.
  7. If Hicks has to go DL it would probably be McKenna or Cowser to avoid 40-man move. I love Kjerstad and hoped he would come up Sept 1 but he is in a 2 for 24 funk over the last 6 games. SSS for sure but he is playing his 1st year of full year ball after 2 years of downtime.
  8. I am a firm believer that players perform better when they know their roles and can control their routine. I also agree with Roy, just about everyone looks gassed. However, you have 6 starters so use the freshest (Irvin) to allow each of the other 5 to skip a start, actually have 9-10 days of relative down time. Throw a long BP session on the skipped day but other wise keep everything the same. Same with BP. Last year Perez, Baker were setup guys for Felix and did well after the Lopez trade. In ST Cano comes outta nowhere and Hyde made him setup guy and Baker, Perez were basically demoted, their roles undefined. I believe that affects their preparation mentally and hence their performance. I refuse to believe that the SigBot overlooked a career lacking control based on a few ST innings. Use Fuji and Webb more, hope the replacements arrive soon, use the Norfolk shuttle more, let your long guys go longer than 1 inning.
  9. They lack playoff experience (this can be good and bad though), the pen isn’t strong enough, the young players, both positional and pitching, could definitely be gassed and I just think other teams are better equipped for the playoffs. I agree with Roy and SG here, we don't have enough pitching we can count on and both position players and pitchers seem gassed. However, with 6 weeks or so left I think they "could" set themselves up better if Hyde changes his tactics a bit. With Irvin available each of Bradish, GRod, Kremer, and Flaherty could skip a start, not a 6-man, extra day, an actual skipped start with a long bullpen on the skipped day to stay on schedule. Ease the inning burden and relax with some extra downtime. Same with position players rotate Gunnar, Urias, Westburg, Frazier so each plays 3 of 4 days and also Hays, Mullins, Santander, Hicks, same thing. Come Sept 1 bring up the best position player and pitcher. For the BP that could be Hall, Wells, Means. Stop leaning on Felix to win every game and matching up in the 5th inning with 1-inning guys. If Irvin pitches the 6th, goes 1-2-3 in 12 pitches why in the world would you burn Fugi and Cano, Hyde did and then they weren't available when needed next. He needs to use his long guys as long guys, not 1-inning guys or Loogies. Pick setup guys not named Cano (Perez/Tate?), guys work better when they know their roles. Hyde has ridden Felix, Cano and 3-4 other guys too hard and they are all on track to blow past max innings ever, same with Bradish, Kremer, GRod. He has managed day to day to win every game and that is why we are 1st. But he can't do it the same way to the finish or we will collapse IMO. With options like Irvin, Fugi, Webb, Wells, Means, Hall becoming available he has a chance to ease up on the guys we will need in the playoffs by ridding the new, fresher guys.
  10. Yes, explanation and chart were both from Fangraphs site
  11. Speed score (Spd) is a statistic developed by Bill James that rates a player on their speed and baserunning ability. Different locations include slightly different components, but the FanGraphs version consists of, “…Stolen Base Percentage, Frequency of Stolen Base Attempts, Percentage of Triples, and Runs Scored Percentage.” Context: Rating Spd Excellent 7.0 Great 6.0 Above Average 5.5 Average 4.5 Below Average 4.0 Poor 3.0 Awful 2.0
  12. Try this: change from Qualified to 100 ABs to get Mayo, pick AAA and Bal and check the Spd column https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/minor-league?pos=all&level=0&lg=5&stats=bat&qual=y&type=1&team=&season=2023&seasonEnd=2023&org=&ind=0&splitTeam=false&players=&sort=19,1
  13. I agree, Fangraphs "speed" stat has Kjerstad (6.0) rated above Cowser (5.5) but that is more speed running the base paths vs sprint speed. Mayo is 2.6, Westburg 6.6, Ortiz 6.8.
  14. You deploy him at 2B along with Ortiz (SS) and Gunnar (3B) on opening day 2024. Holiday won't be up until the August 31 Gunnar date to retain ROY for 2025. By then you will know what you have in Ortiz's bat and Westburg's glove to determine where you play Jackson. Ortiz can be the Util IF if the bat doesn't play. Westburg could as well or maybe move to a COF spot with his speed.
  15. I'm OK with this for 2 reasons, Hyde won't play Cowser regularly enough to get make adjustments and this preserves his ROY eligibility for next year. He will go down with a plan and get regular PT to execute that plan. I am hoping to see Kjerstad's bat in Sept.
  16. You think Hyde would do that, I don't? Irvin pitched a 1-2-3 inning in 12 pitches, perfect spot for him to go 2. Nope, Fugi and Cano. Then they weren't available when Bautista imploded.
  17. JA wants 2 vs 5 year extension because if his lobbyists don't get more than the $600M from the State, he will sell after PA dies. PA is 96, 2 yrs is a good bet.
  18. It is impossible to answer without knowing what Hyde will do. He has Frazier, Westburg, Urias, and Gunnar already. All are producing offensively at present. Unless ME tells Hyde that the winner of this trio starts at SS rest of year, this player will be the 26th man and have little impact. Regardless of what he is doing at AA, Holiday is not better than Gunnar defensively or probably offensively right now. Ortiz "could" be better defensively than Gunnar and be productive with the bat. Not better than Gunnar but maybe Urias. If so that would help the team now. Mateo is a lost cause, distant third. If they are to be the 26th man then we are only talking about a bench bat, pinch runner. I would say Kjerstad is the most developed bat in the minors. This year in 184 ABs he hit .310 .383 .576 .959 at AA and is now in 178 ABs in AAA with a .337 .409 .590 .999. He is literally up across the board in AAA vs AA. As 26th man Kjerstad over Holiday over Ortiz.
  19. I believe there is a max of 14 pitchers after Sept 1 and Means or Hall may be ready to contribute by then. Ortiz, although deserving and already on the 40-man, is still redundant with Westburg, Frazier, Urias already here and Gunnar playing every day. A dangerous bat like Kjerstad's may be more valuable to post season success than Ortiz.
  20. This is all crap. It wasn't Toronto, it was Rogers Communication. DD was referred to Rogers by someone on the NYY Board (collusion). The job was for Pres of Baseball operations and control over the Roger's Center at a salary 2-3X greater. DD reported the contact to PA and we know the rest.
  21. JA wasn't the center of attention yesterday and skeleton crew means higher profit margin.
  22. In my ongoing attempt to get my favorite Mil player onto the first page. I submit Heston's stats YTD at Bow and NOR. He is hitting better at AAA, seems to be accelerating, I truly hope his bat is called up Sept 1. He doesn't walk much but doesn't SO much either. By OPS he leads Cowser, Ortiz, Westburg, trailing only O'Hearn (1.133). Month Team AB SO BB AVG OBP SLG OPS April BOW 67 14 0.284 0.392 0.612 1.004 May BOW 99 14 0.313 0.364 0.545 0.909 FINAL BOW 184 31 15 0.31 0.383 0.576 0.959 June NOR 74 17 0.297 0.384 0.568 0.952 July NOR 75 16 0.387 0.453 0.64 1.093 YTD NOR 170 36 15 0.341 0.415 0.588 1.017
