  1. Even more disappointing because the Tides just put up a five spot in the top of the inning.  (Westburg with the Earl Weaver!)

Needs to learn about the shutdown inning.

Starting on May 27th going through the end of June the O's play 33 games.   Only 7 of them are with clubs with winning records.  Four vs the Jays and 3 vs the Rays.

The other 26 games are against teams belong .500 including the Red Sox (5), Mariners (6),  White Sox (4),  Guardians (3),   Royals (3)  Nationals (2), Cubs (2).

If the O's can stay healthy they have a chance to improve their record over the next month.

UPDATE thru 6/19:  3-2 vs Red Sox, 1-2 vs Mariners, 1-2 vs Guardians 1 win then a rainout vs Cubs, reducing total of stretch to 32,  2-2 vs Royals, into the 7 game “rough stretch” where we go 2-2 vs Jays and 2-1 vs Rays.  12-11 so far with 2 vs Nats, 4 with White Sox and 3 with Mariners remaining.  Satisfying results so far.  Keep on grinding!

  3. I don’t know, it’s like you’re interested in a new car.  The dealer says here take it home for four days no strings attached.  Whaddaya gonna do look out the kitchen window and admire it in the driveway or DRIVE IT?

Weird roster additions to the FCL roster:
Dax Stubbs made the FCL team after slashing .079/.294/.079/.373 last year as an 18-year old in the DSL.
Yonatan Pineda made the team despite a 10.57 and walking 23 in 15.1 IP in the DSL last year. He's 20 years old now.

Who doesn’t love a guy named Dax Stubbs!
Unusual twist coming up from DSL.   Sounds more like a Texarkana kind of guy.   (Pardon my stereotypes)

3-2 vs Red Sox, 1-2 vs Mariners, 1-2 vs Guardians so 5-6 in first 11 of the 26.  Are we able to step it up a bit?

I'd rather have the Red Sox payroll and market.

I’ll take the payroll freedom, but the market would need to be represented by cardboard cutout fans! 😜

Good analogy.   I have to say, Akin has been nothing short of amazing in this role.  12 outings, each at least two innings, and he’s only yielded runs in two of them.  He’s been extremely valuable.

I was going to throw in a third lefty from the past but when I checked out Pete Richert in BBRef I saw he was actually quite a good starter for the Senators prior to his trade to the O’s.   I was just a lad living in NJ at that time rooting for a team which will remain unnamed but remembered Richert.

  9. I know, SSS, but Keegan Akin has really found success in this multi inning stopper role.  Reminds me of the success fellow lefty Arthur Rhodes had after the O’s converted him from frustrating starter to reliever.  Rhodes really was an important piece for Davey’s clubs although the change was made by Mgr. Phil Regan & PC Mike Flanagan mid season 1995.   Rhodes BB/9 and HR/9 really turned downward in 1996 just like Akin’s has this year.

Gonna need Hyder to explain why he’s bringing in Akin now. If he’s available to pitch tonight, why the hell did we go with Gillaspie

I think based on last weeks performance he hoped Gillaspie could get 2 outs.  All these guys gotta grow.

  11. Maybe some background…..

I see that Buster was The Sun’s beat writer in 1995 & 1996 and Mussina won 19 games in both those years.   Might be influencing his view.

Did anyone bring this up last year when ADAM PLUTKO wore #35??

Let’s spend this energy getting 71.1 WAR Bobby Grich in the HOF!   (He’s in O’s not Cooperstown).

  12. This has been mentioned in past threads, although it is not known to be an official requirement,  all Orioles’ retired numbers belonged to players or a manager who won World Series championships with the O’s.  Mussina is lacking that achievement with the O’s.
