  1. Get to 50+ wins. Have some sense that progress is being made under Elias/Hyde while still picking early in 2020...
  2. Hopefully Mancini. Nice ball player that is very unlikely to embarrass the club with his participation (pitchers could always give up 3 HRs in an inning, etc.). That’s about the most you can hope for when you’re going through years like these. Just get it over, and move on...
  3. Agreed. Also allows us to “build out from the plate” (i.e. be strong up the middle). Next up- identifying our SS, and CF of the future...
  4. Agreed. Glad I’m not sitting here trying to defend/explain an oddball, unconventional pick to my NYY, and ATL (live in SC) fan buddies. Pleasant to just receive a bunch of “Damn. Nice pick dude.”-type texts. At any rate, one seemingly centerpiece/franchise-type player added to the rebuild. Hopefully get another one in 12 mos...
  5. Yep. Won’t be easy. Vandy’s a baseball powerhouse! When I lived in Nashville (2005-07) it was solidly Braves country with many people making weekend trips to ATL, etc. (closer than people think). The idea of the Braves as “Team of the South” is very real. Go to a Braves game any Fri or Sat night, and you’ll have people from SC, TN, MS, AL, AR, etc. all around you. Team in NSH would need to be good.
  6. I hear you- and Know we had some great moments with each of those guys- but not really that surprising IMHO: Machado- massive re-sign risk- even for LAD Britton- coming back from injury, rental Gausman/Schoop- perennially inconsistent Brach- off year O’Day- injured Plus everybody knew we wanted to clear the decks wherever we could- especially with Davis (and seemingly Jones) stuck in cement...
  7. Could be worse (and may still end up being worse if goes to NYY in the off-season). The Dodgers at least have the distinguished class/history of Jackie Robinson/Branch Rickey. Plus- in their Brooklyn days- they were a gritty, blue collar rival to the NYY not too dissimilar to us when we’ve got our act together. At any rate, all things considered- seeing him in Dodger Blue ain’t the worst IMHO...
  8. A funny confluence of events- especially growing up in Yankee and particularly Met country (Connecticut) in the 1980's. Anyway, my first little league team was the "Orioles". I LOVED the cartoon bird cap, logo and mascot. Lastly, the '83 World Series (I was 6) was basically my first clear baseball memory- so I guess I was a bit of a winner-picker (little did I know! haha!). At any rate- live in South Carolina now- but all my Met fan friends are texting support while my Yankee fan friends are texting trash talk! Feel like I'm back on the playground with this series.:laughlol:
  9. Grew up in Southern Connecticut- in the heart of Yankee and Met country- especially Met country in the 1980's. Anyway- in the Spring of 1983 my t-ball team was the "Orioles". I remember going to the store and buying a white panel cartoon bird cap to round out my "uniform" and just loving my cap and becoming an O's fan. Then- we ALL know what happened that Fall. Sure I was a winner-picker- but Oriole fandom was cemented after something as magical as that season transpired. Whatever the case- thought I'd be on "easy" street as an Orioles fan from that point on- but other than a couple glimmers in '89 and the 90's- it's been a rough ride! But somehow worth it. I love my O's...:hearts:
