  1. Didn’t he chime in recently and mention he was on vacation or something?
  2. Even so, I think I would wait until formal approval before making any substantial commitments which is why I'm skeptical about the sale having any immediate impact. I can't tell you how much I would like to be wrong about that.
  3. I'm not sure this is completely true, and even if it was, there are a dozen different ways the state along with the city of Baltimore could claim a vested interest so why go out of your way to pick a fight? It would be foolish to act as if the respective governments weren't partners in a real, practical sense with something as large and public as a professional sports franchise.
  4. That would be nice, but there are enough moving parts to where I wouldn't bet on it. I hope I'm wrong and the sale happens quickly with full support of the other owners.
  5. How likely is it that Rubenstein and his partner along with Cal Ripken over there in the corner don't know who Mike Elias is? My theory is that there have already been preliminary discussion with Elias and his near-term obligations have already been clarified.
  6. I don't either. I think it's stay the course until 2025.
  7. I suspect that PA's condition is having a large impact on the timing of all this.
  8. They're being a little hysterical, but it's satisfying nonetheless.
  9. The devil is in the details, but yes. It's still the consolation prize though.
  10. I'm sure the Washington Post will have a full obituary that will answer that question to some degree. Probably the Baltimore Banner too. Not at all sure about the Sun these days.
  11. I missed that. I have to think that we haven't heard the last of this then.
  12. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that all the teams agreed not to in order to participate in the revenue from the MLB controlled streaming service.
  13. I'll bet Scott Boras has an even bigger smile. Probably doing a little happy dance right now at the thought of two more multi-billionaires to cozy up to.
  14. Probably. Approaching 800 episodes now.
  15. Interesting thought. I'm pretty sure that's something that would have been addressed and resolved before the sale however, and I can't imagine the new ownership would want anything other than to extend Elias and his team.
  16. All good points and I'll wager that Rob Manfred will lobby hard to get John Angelos in the rearview mirror just as soon as possible.
  17. A completely legit mostly factual (as opposed to opinion) based web site.
  18. I think this is most likely good news on the payroll front along with everything else, but remember that private equity companies are not known for spending like drunken sailors for the benefit of their customers. I'm hoping that Rubenstein and his partner are looking at the O's as a passion project and not a source of short-term profit.
  19. Puck has the news at the top of its Home page. S1.725 billion.
  20. The writer's union was notified on the 19th that "most if not all" of the staff were to be laid off. I could make a joke about the AI walking out in solidarity but on second thought I won't.
  21. Given the overall health of major league baseball in general and the identifiable revenue streams for the Orioles specifically, the notion that JA would have to raise ticket prices (his claim in a NY Times story) in order to carry a bigger payroll would be laughable if it weren't so insulting. Organizational costs? Plenty of teams are aggressively shoveling money into scouting and development yet somehow they can get by carrying a payroll well north of $100 million. Perhaps JA should pirate some business execs from other teams to show him how it's done seeing that he's having so much trouble with his current crew.
  22. We all have our own definitions of what an elite prospect is. Mine is any prospect that is in the top 50 of Baseball America, Fangraphs and MLB Pipeline at the same time. All three. Pick your own mix of sources if you don't like mine because in the end there are no guarantees. A Fangraphs FV of 55 and higher is a good rough rule of thumb but the lower down in an organization the more volatility you get especially with pitchers.
