  1. Oh I do... wrapped up by around September 2.
  2. Fair comment. They should be rotation options 6a and 6b. That said, I hope they're still in the system.
  3. Only able to follow on Gameday, but this looks like a real curb stomping tonight. If there's a silver lining (BIG IF) is that this performance is so embarrassing that JA can't duck the fallout. I know, I know, I know, spare me the cynical comments. This team has a great core and a great future, but it will need a little help for the next season or two. That's the big lesson from this series.
  4. I think he's referring to flexor tendon surgery like Tarik Skubal got which has a shorter recovery timetable as opposed to Tommy John surgery like Means got.
  5. Sportswriters are in the narrative business, especially at playoff time. Hard to fault Britt for that. The playoffs are a crapshoot to a large extent but that doesn’t mean you can’t load the dice a little in your favor. Even a three-game series is not absolutely random. Talent matters and the Orioles could have done a little better with the bullpen at the break.
  6. That money will be spent on raises through arbitration. The O’s payroll will have to increase next season to acquire any free agents. I think it will but will it be enough to make a difference is the question.
  7. Of the 15 games Kremer started since the beginning of July, the O's won 13. In his last start against Boston he went 5.1 and gave up 2 hits. 0 runs, and struck out 8. He's been solid recently.
  8. Isn't this thread supposed to show up around December 15?
  9. A team could do a lot worse than Kremer as #5. Yeah, this means the O's will have to acquire a pitcher (hopefully more than one) during the offseason, but after last year, I won't hold my breath.
  10. I don't understand this sentence. Game 4 comes after Game 3 and before Game 5. Don't tell me you've been talking to the faux-weightlifting guy who has been patronizing the O's since August.
  11. Actually I was responding to the post directly above the one I made and I should have quoted it directly. The phrase I was responding to was " ...it got me thinking that if the rest of the country thinks we have a great BP, we look like bigger choke artists than we already are". First of all "choke" is a loaded term if there ever was one and maybe that's what happened and maybe not. I think we're safe in assuming the pressure got to GR, but Baker walked 3 in 0.1 inning so did he choke or is he simply a bad pitcher? I'm guessing it's the latter. Flaherty walked 3 in 2.0 innings along with giving up 2 hits and an earned run. He's a bad pitcher but he has post-season experience in 2019 and 2020. Did he choke or simply revert to all-to-familiar mean? And the same could be said for Webb.
  12. I think Hyde defaults to the vet in almost all cases, so I think O'Hearn starts vs. Kjerstad if it's a choice between those two.
  13. More complete team? Orioles ERA+ 106; Rangers 105 Orioles OPS+ 107; Rangers 113 That's a very slight edge to the Rangers on particularly pessimistic day.
  14. In Game 1 the O's struck out 16 Rangers and in Game 2 they scored 8 runs. In both cases that wasn't enough to win, but that hardly qualifies as "choking."
  15. The offense scored 8 runs in Game 2. That should have been around 3 more than necessary. Gunnar, Mateo, Hicks and them didn't walk 11 batters.
  16. Regardless of how the rest of the post-season works out for the O's, there's no ignoring the fact that the system needs greater pitching depth. There's been lots of amazing progress this season in every facet of the organization but now is not the time to let up. I'll be watching JA's behavior most of all this offseason.
  17. I want the offense and the pitching to show up during the same game on Tuesday. 16 K's in Game 1 was brilliant. 8 runs in Game 2 should be enough but it sure won't be if you're going to give up 11 walks in the process. My vote is for Kremer to start, because I'm an optimist and I believe the O's will need Gibson's veteranocity for game 4.
  18. Low and away to RHB looks tempting.
  19. Heaney innings 1-3, followed by Dunning for another three innings; more if he's good. Montgomery for game two and Eovaldi starts game three and then Bochy makes it up on the fly after that. Heaney is simply not good enough to start game one in a post-season environment, so burning two starters in one game makes sense in that situation.
  20. Point me to a time since May 2022 when the Orioles haven't have any business walking on the field with any team in either league.
  21. The first WC game was played in 1995. From 1995-1997 Eddie had 1302 PA and put up a .278/.338/.440/.778 line with 46 HR. Not too shabby for an old man, but that wouldn't move the needle very much.
  22. But the OP stipulated wild card era, so he only qualifies at manager. Interesting thought though.
  23. Late 90's Mussina although it's tempting to pick Palmiero from 1995-1998.
