  1. Triple-digit wins for the first time since 1980. It's going to take a while for that to sink in; I really wasn't expecting to see it for another couple of years.
  2. In the end, I voted Henderson because the award is limited to 2023. But it's close and anyone who voted for Bradish, Bautista or Rutschman isn't wrong. Just another illustration of what a team effort this season has turned out to be.
  3. I'm betting the turnout will surprise everyone - and not by a little.
  4. I really miss Boswell. Not as much as I miss Brooks, but a lot nonetheless.
  5. Brooks pulled a whopping $856,000 out of the game over 23 years, or slightly more than MLB annual minimum these days. BBRef usually has career earnings info at the bottom of a player's individual page.
  6. I think it remains to be established that the O’s are a “development organization” when it comes to pitching although it’s a good time to work on that goal. Let’s see if they use some of the surplus minor league positional talent to balance the lack of pitching there. I would be a whole lot happier if a healthy Wells was number 7 or 8 in line for a rotation spot at the beginning of ST and the Zimmermans of the world were no longer in the picture.
  7. Hell, Bradish is 6-1 with an ERA in the neighborhood of 2.25 since the trade deadline. Nobody saw that coming. The entire rotation is stepping up when it matters most, but I don't think anybody should feel embarrassed about thinking the O's needing pitching any time during the season.
  8. This has me thinking - first, any of the older board members remember who wrote this? And also, I wonder just how many kids in and around Baltimore in the 1970s were named Brooks? I know Tom Boswell (WaPo) wrote something along these lines a long time ago Edit: I found the quote in a collection of essays by Boswell called The Heart of the Order. The quote is from The Hoover: Called Up to Cooperstown. "Around here people don't name candy bars after Brooks Robinson", said the day's master of ceremonies, Gordon Beard, "they name their children after him".
  9. Pretty amazing performance tonight. I hope he gets a little rest between tomorrow and the beginning of the playoffs, but I think he'll be a real plus during the post season. Definitely trending in the right direction.
  10. Best there ever was. RIP Brooks. Thanks for all the great memories.
  11. If they want to look like the smartest guys in the room then they should start by reading what they write and pull their heads out of their respective butts. In their write-up for Tier 1 they called the O's and Rays "The two best teams in the AL..." So that really means TB is Tier 1, O's Tier 3 and Tier 2 has three AL teams (out of four)? Got it. They explain their ranking system's methodology, but all they seem to do is underscore its deficiencies. They deserve to be laughed at.
  12. This is where I am too. Well done Mr. Frazier (especially last night) and I will be rooting for you the rest of the way.
  13. I think Gibson's veteranocity also makes him a lock and further pushes Irvin to the side. I will be surprised if Kjerstad makes it and really surprised if Cowser does. Agree that McKenna has an inside track for additional position player.
  14. It's a shame we won't get to see a GrayRod/Brown matchup, that would add a little extra interest to an already interesting series.
  15. You're right, it was snarky and snark is rarely constructive, so my apologies. That said, I still question the post of yours that I initially responded to. At what point did it become apparent that what was really missing from the evening was an Adult In The Room?. I seems to me that all of the adults who mattered - the ones with actual skin in the game like the players, coaches, Hyde, Elias, the team principle (!!!) - were already in the room grinning like fools, bouncing around covered in champagne and sucking down beer bongs. They were having fun and so were a lot of us who were watching. When it comes to judgement about the near maybe they deserve the benefit of the doubt on a night like tonight.
  16. It's okay. I heard that Hyde has group snarl scheduled right before batting practice tomorrow to erase any vestige of happiness from the minds of these entitled, ungrateful impostors.
  17. I think it’s more likely that a Boras client signs an extension than a John Angelos run team offers one
  18. Either way, real troll nutrition comes from attention so I suggest we all move on from this train wreck of a thread.
  19. Switch Rutschman and Mullins in the order. Westburg at 2B and Urias at 3B and Frazier on the bench. I don't get Hyde's thinking sometimes.
  20. Most of us when it came to his swing decisions on low and away junk. That said, a really good dude who made watching the O's that much better.
  21. Unless you're watching on MLB. I'm getting one for something called BarkBox. Over and over and over.... But it gets worse, the final image is of a guy sitting on the toilet with the door open smiling while he watches his dog try to destroy something.
  22. I lived in Texas for almost 13 years and was in Amarillo several times. I lived in SoCal for 30 years so and I didn't become a hippie so I don't know where you're going with this. I was talking about his look and not in a negative way at all.
