  1. I said B-/C+. I suspect that after the dust settles some missed opportunities will reveal themselves and I'll want to move it down a notch. Michael Lorenzen in a case in point. The Phillies acquired him for Hao-Yu Lee who is the rough equivalent of Aberdeen's Issac DeLeon. The O's couldn't match that? Lorenzen's 2023 ERA+ is 122 which is greater than any Orioles starter save Bradish and 25 points higher than Flaherty's. Yes analysis is more complicated than a 5-minute visit to BBRef and Lorenzen is not the key to the post season, but he's not chopped liver either. I very much support the idea of addressing the O's pitching imbalance in the coming offseason, but I suspect the 2023 O's could have comfortably received a little more support than they got.
  2. I wish they would have poked a little harder on Lorenzen. The Phillies got him for a high-A infielder considerably less talented than Prieto and nothing else. The O's could have easily beaten that offer and still have had plenty left for Flaherty. Lorenzen is not some world-beater but he would have helped.
  3. I will be very interested in hearing the details. I'm fine with Flaherty and Fujinami. Barely. O's pitching could have used more help.
  4. Flaherty is needed and will be useful. Elias had to do something and that's the best way to describe this trade IMO. The price was too high especially if it turns out that it was 3 for 1. When the dust clears after all the trade movement, I think that everybody will be wondering why the O's didn't beat the offer for Lorenzen.
  5. That's the most I would do as well. Maybe a lottery ticket too.
  6. Their primary residence is now Jupiter, FL. Before that it was Beverly Hills where they sold their mansion to Timothee Chalamet. Given what they both pull down, I wouldn't be surprised if they have several residences in the US alone. As far as maximizing or minimizing media exposure is concerned, well they have people for that....
  7. Verlander's primary residence is in Florida which also has no state income tax.
  8. Yep. Lots and lots of noise in the media signal this close to the trade deadline. Always good to remember that before getting too invested in any "report".
  9. Forbes has Cohen's personal net worth at $17.5 billion. 5% return on that money (pretty conservative for a hedge fund manager) would be $875 million. Put differently that's enough to cover the entire Mets payroll with $500 million plus left over before income from the team is factored in. This is a universe John Angelos can't imagine and I agree that alone makes the Mets an interesting trade partner. But even with an obvious disparity in resources, I wonder how cash poor the Orioles actually need to be considered. IMO not enough to justify doing nothing without charity from Steve Cohen.
  10. Yes. As long as you attach Mike Cuellar's name to it. Otherwise let's all wait until we see how Adley works out. Mussina, who was one of my favorite Orioles at the time, can go pound sand.
  11. Lorenzen and a rental reliever. They'll wait until the offseason to address the organizational pitching imbalance.
  12. .313/.371/.871 since AS break.
  13. N.Y. Mets, $353,546,854 N.Y. Yankees, $276,999,872 San Diego, $248,995,932 Philadelphia, $243,009,439 L.A. Dodgers, $222,717,834 L.A. Angels, $212,228,096 Toronto, $ 209,938,983 Throwing money doesn't seem to be a winning strategy this season unless you're the Dodgers. Not the Orioles' sandbox.
  14. That noise you hear is Earl turning over in his grave the way this game is going.
  15. I agree, but we have prospects we will never use so he has to deal them. I remain convinced that the upcoming offseason is the best time to trade for some pitching, but tonight's game is really, really hard to watch.
