  1. The only thing Abner Doubleday ever started was the Civil War. -Branch Rickey
  2. This could probably go in several threads, but I'll put it here because it fits and I'm too lazy to search right now. Today's Athletic has the O's as #2 in their power rankings: 2. Baltimore Orioles Record: 61-38 Last Power Ranking: 6 Biggest deadline need: Starting pitching The Orioles’ rotation entered Sunday ranked 17th in the majors in ERA. Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells have been solid, and John Means could return from Tommy John surgery around early September. (If Means returns, he may be best suited for a bullpen role in the postseason.) All that said, the Orioles could use a frontline starting pitcher to hold down a rotation spot in October. Sure, Shohei Ohtani spending the final months of the season in Baltimore would be incredibly entertaining. But any of the top rotation arms available may be more realistic. — SN No mention of relief pitching, and the review seems a little superficial overall, but hey it's nice to see a little national respect anyway.
  3. Several valid concerns and truckloads of sour grapes. Is guile a bad thing in this context? The way the post is written, my diagnosis is that this Yankees fan is suffering from acute fantasy baseball poisoning mixed with NY sports media overload.
  4. He's also had 17 walks in his last 21 innings pitched, so he's trending the wrong direction at the moment. Additionally he has a 13% BB% when the MLB average is 8.4% so he's probably not going to turn his command issues around anytime soon. Tryptamine's post was simply meant as an update to pitchers that have been discussed as Orioles trade targets before the deadline. My post as well.
  5. To piggyback a little on this post, Blake Snell gave up seven walks in five innings a couple of days ago.
  6. My post was intended to be humorous (sort of), but of course you are absolutely not wrong to look at it critically anyway. The proposals we are seeing from the national pundits especially have absolutely nothing to do with the game the Orioles ought to be playing which is to focus on improving pitching and to stay aware of what they should be spending, not what they could theoretically afford.
  7. Just remember that if the O's somehow actually do trade for Othani, Hyde will still sit him twice a week so everybody else can get AB's and stay "fresh".
  8. Bradish and Wells haven't gotten enough national respect. Bautista and Cano have. Otherwise O's pitching hasn't inspired a whole lot of confidence, especially from the bullpen.
  9. Yeah. Trading for pitching is the world Elias chose and created and has to live with at least in the near term. If Miami is offering Luzardo you listen, period.
  10. I just read the SI article speculating on potential Othani trades https://apple.news/ACoAaCLl_Q36EefngkiG9Ng I’m left with no alternative to conclude that this whole deal is nothing more than a test of sobriety. With that in mind I’m offering Norby and a single A lottery ticket and if I’m turned down, I’ll see you at the local with a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
  11. After tonight’s curb stomping by Rays pitching, I needed a good laugh.
  12. Im 72 and I’m not whining about the game being over. See my response to Can_of_Corn.
  13. All the more reason for him to not talk like he’s 16 then.
  14. Here’s a better idea. Why don’t you take your condescending, ageist crap and shove it?
  15. No he hasn’t. Personally I’m happy to see the O’s be a little more aggressive than the first three innings. Eflin is just really good tonight.
  16. Cool. Now Mike, get another RP today and activate him in time for tomorrow's game.
  17. Realistically, another solid relief pitcher to go along with Fujinami and a young, talented, controllable SP. That's best case and the last part will be expensive, so I only actually expect the relief help. But there's no reason that I can see to discount acquiring another SP at this stage.
  18. Maybe the big unnoticed story during an iffy win. Hopefully tonight broke up the logjam for him.
  19. I never, ever want to see Frazier at 2B again without an 8-run lead.
