  1. I said nothing of the sort. You can project all you want, but as of now, neither Bradfield nor Beavers are as valuable as Ortiz was last off-season. That's not to mention D.L. Hall. You're not getting a Burnes type pitcher with a deal headlined by either of those guys as of now.
  2. Guys like Bradfield and Beavers aren't as valuable as Ortiz was last year. Right now we have 3 prospects rated at or better (and they are all better) than Ortiz last year: Mayo, Basallo, and Kjerstad. Can we afford to deal one of those three for another rental TOR this off-season? As of today, I wouldn't feel great about that.
  3. I don't think those guys are going to get you anything near TOR. I don't think we can afford to annually give up a couple top 100 prospects for a rental TOR- at least not yet. Plenty were willing to part w Cowser last year, but how would we feel about our OF situation this year, and going forward, without Cowser in the mix?
  4. They were. The thing is, they were right. Until they weren't. He did have a better approach last April and it's why his results were better. Ditto for this year. The question is how long can he maintain the approach? The answer is probably not indefinitely.
  5. Norby, Stowers, Bradfield, and Beavers are not on Ortiz' level. Basallo, Mayo, and Kjerstad are. Higher in fact. However, Ortiz got one year of a top rotation guy with a "throw in" that was likewise a top 100 guy. It's possible you could get a TOR guy- not on Burnes' level- for a package built around one of those three. But there's hardly a guarantee and most posters have been adamant about not parting with Basallo or Mayo.
  6. Do we? The only guys in Ortiz' range are Kjerstad and Basallo. Are we open to trading them? For rentals?
  7. Of course. Just extending the analysis.
  8. Well, the only third scenario is he takes his next turn in the rotation, so easy to imagine, but harder to imagine coming true.
  9. It would be unusual, but it almost seems like Means' surgery has never "stuck." He's been able to make a few starts and then experience elbow pain and require rest and rehab. Let's all hope for the best. But this is certainly ominous news.
  10. Well, I think they like him more than Urias and that's basically it. If he starts to struggle w the bat, and Urias hits some more, then their playing time will be adjusted.
  11. I honestly don't think the bolded is the case. The plan was almost certainly for Holliday to be getting the lion's share of 2b ABs. And for Mateo to be in a role much as you described. However, performance- both of Holliday and Mateo- have dictated otherwise. For now.
  12. Terrific. So my board experience will stay the same then and you'll continue to be a non-entity in my world.
  13. I wasn't even taking a shot at SG. I was speaking TO the person I quoted, and nobody else (imagine that), and saying I agree with you, and don't think that response was appropriate because you're right. Serves me right for agreeing with someone. I'll never make that mistake again. I'd hate that to seem passive aggressive to someone I don't even know exists.
  14. You're right. I don't know why this got the response it did.
  15. I guess the throw wasn't as bad as I initially saw it, but it wasn't a good throw and definitely caused Jorge to go in the air to catch it.
  16. That was actually a very poor play by Cowser. Firstly, he fumbled the ball in the corner (likely the only reason they even sent the runner) and then he made a very bad throw to Mateo that Mateo bailed him out on by jumping 11 feet in the air to catch.
  17. Did Davis get one? He must of. If we survived that, I'm sure we can survive a McKenna appreciation thread.
  18. He's absolutely getting claimed.
  19. Oh for sure. He's not breaking my heart again after last year.
  20. BTW, Baseball Reference has Mateo as 5th most valuable Orioles, and on pace for over 4 WAR.
  21. We'll just have to content ourselves with Lamar and Eddie George.
  22. I was thinking running back or safety, but he'd a find a position. He's not just fast; he's very solidly built.
  23. I had it at 10.6 for Jorge and 10.7 for Gunnar. I haven't been able to find it, and so it must be buried in an unrelated thread, but we had a similar conversation last year about a triple Jorge hit. IIRC, I had timed Jorge at 10.8 on a triple, and people pushed back saying that would be the fastest triple in the statcast era, and 24fps started talking about broadcast television, etc. But no doubt, they can both really fly. Jorge coming into to second and turning it up as he decides to go for 3 was a sight to behold. He's a pretty good baseball player, but I would like to see the alternative world where grew up playing American football.
  24. Surprised at this.
  25. I have him as a tenth of a second faster.
