  1. I'm still not 100% convinced it's not some sort of a glitch in the box score. Lex Rutledge apparently pitched in the GCL today as well.

    60-day DL, per Baseball America.
  3. Coffey wouldn't have netted them a comp pick, and also you'd like to think they've learned from their mistakes.
  4. Right, because the only concern the kid has is how much money he can make from baseball. Give me a break.
  5. Yeah, but with a compensation pick it's hard to get too annoyed at the kid. Plus, he's a teenager and it's hard to blame him for taking the chance to be a full-time college student (at a significantly reduced tuition rate). College can be a lot of fun and he'll get to play plenty of baseball there too. Maybe he shouldn't have indicated he'd sign, but kids change their minds sometimes. It's not like he said he'd sign for a certain amount and then decided he wanted more, he apparently just wanted to go to college. Whatever. I wasn't enthralled with him either, but he's got some nice upside I guess. Maybe he develops at GT and turns into a first-round pick. Who knows?
  6. All it takes is one other team to like him and suddenly he's not there in round 3. And if he were more polished, or maintained his velo better, or had more projection, he'd be gone in the first. I don't know, I'm not ecstatic about this pick, but his fastball's got some serious life and I love the tilt on the slider. Absolutely no deception in the delivery, though. There's lots of upside here, but it'll take some work to bring it out.
  7. Connaughton will take a good deal of coaching to tighten his mechanics and improve his changeup, but you can't teach a live arm and there's not going to be many better athletes than him. Based on personal preference for the more polished types I'd still take Gonzalez, though. I wouldn't be at all surprised if David Hess turns out to be the most productive draftee from this class.
  8. Easy to see where the wildness comes from. Cleaning up his arm circle would be a start. Threw some nice curves in the video in the OP, but also threw some that got loopy. He's got the building blocks but needs a lot of work.
  9. Why? There are rumors that he's going to college, to the point where some of us are taking it as a foregone conclusion. He's contradicting them based on what he's heard. If it was just one guy in the comment section, then yeah, but it's not just that at this point.
  10. Pretty sure they're one step down from the amateur scouting director.
  11. They fired Ron Hopkins, who came from the Texas Rangers. I don't think they fired the scout in charge of Texas.
  12. I think he was complaining. For the record, I wasn't really complaining about a fourth-round pick having average power, more that the connotations associated with Snyder among Orioles fans make him a bad choice of comp, especially when you're talking about a single tool. Like, you could say "Brandon Snyder hit tool" or "Brandon Snyder glove" and people will immediately get a negative impression of the player when maybe they don't need to.
  13. Yeah, I think I might have been projecting my opinion of Snyder onto what you were saying, that's my bad. We don't know what Walker will do as a pro, but his SC numbers (walking twice for every SO) indicate more strike zone command than Snyder had. It's very possible he doesn't do any better than Snyder, probable even, but I don't think "Snyder power" means he won't do anything, even though there is definite reason to be skeptical about players with that kind of profile.
  14. I mean, the Snyder comp is a bit loaded, because Snyder is basically a one-tool player who strikes out way more than he walks. I don't think Walker is that kind of player, is he? Average power can play at 1B with a good hit tool, good approach, and good defense. Snyder probably isn't a major league starter, but that doesn't mean being a 1B with Snyder power is a death sentence.
  15. That's exactly what I thought you'd say. Every average-power 1B in the majors will forever be compared to Brandon Snyder by Orioles fans. Why can't it be Sean Casey average?
  16. I feel like you'll like his swing. Really quiet, uses his lower body well. I think it plays in the pros.
  17. Didn't get a chance to see him as a pro, but the stuff I've seen from him in high school (on Youtube) looked real good in my unprofessional opinion.
  18. man, if he breaks out AGAIN, we may have something very special on our hands
  19. one that hasn't been mentioned yet: Bennett Parry.

  21. In my recollection, he claimed to be okay and that his shoulder was just a little stiff in ST, but after he threw a bullpen session was shut down, then he tried to rehab it but eventually got surgery. He definitely spent some time not on the DL in ST and was considered a rotation candidate in that time.
  22. Troy Patton was a rotation candidate in 08 before he tore his labrum in ST.
