  1. I lived in Valencia ,Spain from 2001-2005 re: avatar. My dads grandfather moved to Hells Kitchen from Durrow, Ireland in 1921. Emmett(my middle name) is a family name that’s been passed down through the generations.
  2. This is the year wins and loses count! In Norfolk.
  3. I’m Irish, but I’m not that Irish.
  4. I agree. I would like to see Hays replaced out there. He's too inconsistent and has broken my heart too much over the years waiting for a breakout. He might be a little more interesting as a trade piece to another team. I'd be OK with either as a part of a trade for SP improvement. I think with one of Hays & Santander traded, even with a FA aquisition, Stowers can get 400 ABs between OF and DH, especially if the OF acquired can play 1B.
  5. I'd love if we went into the season with the following IF set up: Mountcastle 1B Frazier 2B Gunnar SS Urias 3B Westburg 3B, SS, 2B, 1B, DH _____________________________ Ortiz SS in Norfolk Norby 2B in Norfolk
  6. I'd like to have Wells & Voth in the pen and next man up to rotation when someone goes down inevitably. I'm not interested in Lopez specifically, The Marlins have a few pitcher worth targeting as do some other teams out there as well. I think a Mateo/Santander + Prospect could be an attractive deal to someone.
  7. I was going to point out those guys specifically, but I don't know if they count as 'bounce back'. They all had promise, but never put up good seasons before.
  8. He put up 2.2 more WAR & .030 more OBP than Frazier last year and is a year younger. What's your threshold for 'above average'?
  9. He gives you a solid lead-off batter with good OBP. He has a strong arm is plays a solid D. Provides versatility that Hyde and Elias seem to value. He doesn't have the power of Tony, but the 18 HR difference could be picked up internally from Mountcastle and Stowers. I'm not advocating to sign the guy; he just seems to me like the type of guy the FO is looking for. I imagine he could be had for 2/16MM which should be slightly lower than Tony's 2022 & 2023 salaries.
  10. You know how those Curaçao birth certificates can be funny fixed
  11. A LF acquisition frees up both Santander & Mateo for a trade to the fish.
  12. .331 OBP last year .322 career .309 MLB avg. He’s 29 years old and logged 3.1 WAR 2022 -6 OAA v -5 OAA (Hays & Santander in LF) Switch Hitter. Plays 1B. He turned down 7.5MM option. Santander slated to make 7.5MM next year. Youngish (will play @ 30 next year) with some defensive versatility and has the ability to get on base. What say you about a Profar signing allowing us to trade Santander, play LF on the road, push Mountcastle at 1B, and match up at DH. By no means flashy but very Orioles.
  13. DL Hall is the wild card. If he can harness his ability he moves the needle significantly.
  14. 8. Remaining moves and prospect capitol to acquire a difference making player before the season or at the deadline.
  15. I don’t like the chances of them outperforming expectations two years in a row.
  16. If Means pitches one inning this year, that will be a win. He should not be factored into any plans for 2023.
  17. I think there are a lot of variables. Adley had a fairly significant shoulder injury playing football in high school, does something pop up on a physical? does that get aggravated over the next few years? (See Correa). Folks think Elias was gaming him to start year, but he obviously had a significant enough injury to set him back and hamper his throwing for the first month+ of his season. Wieters injury came long after he had accrued significant service time. If Adley gets hurt early in his career, he would not have that same tenure and earning power. I agree he is in a unique position being a freak show at a position of need in MLB, but to me goal #1 of the FO should be wrapping him up for 8-10 years and making him an Oriole lifer.
  18. That’s an outside the box idea that I could get behind.
  19. I didn’t either. Been searching around and haven’t found anything yet. I get he played for the 2014 Royals and 8 years later that still stings. But by all accounts he seems to be a pretty driven, focused, and determined guy.
  20. Everyone seems to “have heard” Hosmer is a jerk. Does anyone have anything concrete, link, something or is it all just a “gut” feeling.? I’ve met him before and he was incredible nice and went out of his way be nice to my son. Just curious on what other experiences folks have had that has given him such a bad name. I’ve heard rumblings as well and by no means am I trying to stick up for him, but what is driving your decisions on his character? I’d be curious to hear those stories.
  21. My main point is that I believe the Oriole are in a fairly good position to secure him long term if they really are so inclined.
  22. Especially for a guy that turns 25 in May and becomes a FA at 30 playing the most strenuous position.
  23. Again, he does not have 10mm. And we are not talking about our concern for Adley…..He should expect about 5% return per year or about 250-300k. That amount should cover his living expenses per year and allow him to save a bit for stuff like college for his children. Like I said before and as the point has been hammered home, 5.5mm is not enough money to change the life him and two future generations. If he lives modestly, he will have stress free life. If he tears his ACL in spring training he misses his chance at a huge contract extension and misses our on next year and potentially some of 2024. I’m done engaging with this.
  24. I followed up in a previous post. The 50% number thrown out was incorrect.
  25. Thanks for providing your opinions. Not really sure how to respond to that. one note: Oregon Estate Tax is 482,000 + 12% for an estate of 5.5-6.5. So if he maintains his 5.5MM (this assumes no future earnings - which is the scenario we have been discussing) his heirs would get around 4.2MM. Again, not a lot of money to split up between how many (someone say multiple generations…..???) And factoring in inflation 50 years down the road.
