Interesting they focus on vertical angle. I have noticed their swings tend to be on a flat low-vertical angle swing plane.... think Gunnars HR last night where his bat looked almost parallel to the ground. I'll have to give that episode a watch.

It’s not just bat speed. Its the acquisition of the motor skills and building of myelin sheathing in the brain. The different bats, bats with weight in different locations, bats at different lengths (short bat long bat), bats with smaller (skinny) barrels all makes each rep difficult and causes the batter to focus to an extreme level to achieve success. The body self organizes depending on the batting implement and in doing so make the batter better at that particular skill. Anything you can do to make the reps more challenging makes the batter better. Throwing from different locations in cage…..set up L screen 10’ off center to left then 10’ off center to right. Set up two pitching machines with one set as a curve and one set as a FB and don’t let the batter know what’s coming. Anything to make the rep challenging and different from the previous rep.

Correct on the last part. I almost mentioned that. Apart from having the bench bats replace lower lineup guys, the lead-off hitter also has the best chance of seeing the SP a third time through the line up.

Gunnar has already had 19 more PA than the #2 most (Adley), 22 more PA than the #3 most (Santander), 27 more PA than #4 (Westburg), and 29 more PA than #5 (Mountcastle). That is just over 1/4 of the season. Batting him 4th means that he will very often get only 4 PA per game instead of 5, and that 5th PA will take place at a critical time in the 9th inning. He hits a HR every 12.6 PAs (this year & every 19.9 PA career) so batting him second is coughing up 1-2 HR so far this season, 3rd or 4th is -3HR....and that's in just a little over 1/4 of the season. So, by moving him to 3rd or 4th you're taking away ~10HR over the course of a full season. Instead of putting him lower in the line-up, I'd like to see a higher OBP guy in front of him in the 9 spot. Gunnar has the tools to be a tremendous lead-off hitter.

That a tough one. It’s not a ground ball. Super weak blooper and his first instinct was that he had a chance to catch it. My question is what was Mountcastle doing? That didn’t look remotely close to 1B, almost directly to Mateo. I think that play is a hit 99/100 but only chance is Mountcastle holding 1B and a quick throw from Mateo. I don’t think Perez would have been able to nearby runner to the bag even if he went right away it would have been really tough.
