  1. As Marcus Stroman says, don’t be a good dance partner.
  2. Hall went 4ip 2BB 1K 2 ER 45/73 today for Mil
  3. He’s got a nasty CU he throws 21% of the time. Cowser batted .000 on CU last year. Yes I know it’s a very SSS. Also has a good slider & curve. Cowser was thought to be cheating on FBs that left him vulnerable to good off-speed.
  4. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/griffin-canning-656288?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb 90th percentile of speed run value. Looks like he excels at what Cowser struggles with.
  5. Thats the next frontier. I think we will see some major breakthroughs eventually. https://athletesbest.com/build-myelin-enhance-skills/ https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/17590914221097510
  6. Norby low-key went 4-6 in season opener with 0 Ks and 2 RBI. The guy gets no love. Found it interesting he was batting 2nd.
  7. I think this is a make or break year for his career trajectory. Hitting is three things 1. Bat speed 2. Bat to ball skills 3. Swing decisions. He excels at 2/3. Can he he make the final leap and become elite ? Can he at least adjust slightly to take him to an .850+ well above average level?
  8. Had not thought about this “professional hitter” phrase until reading through this thread. For me, it’s a guy who’s calling card is their bat. A hit first guy who won’t make a manager look stupid putting him in the DH role. The term makes me think of guys who aren’t good in the field or who have had injuries that prevent them from playing in the field. Someone like Michael Brantley who had a .794 career OPS and who’s first 4 years don’t hold a candle to Mounty. I don’t think @interloper was out of line at all calling Mounty a professional hitter. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/brantmi02.shtml#2009-2012-sum:batting_standard
  9. Not an excuse at all, but playing baseball in 20mph winds really freaking sucks. Just throws everything off, not just balls in the air. Tomorrow supposed to be much nicer.
  10. Interestingly Mounty had more BBs in fewer PA than Baines in their respective first 4 seasons. I’ve heard rumblings of guys on the team say that Ryan is the best pure hitter on the squad. The guy can hit. His xwOBACON is elite. He can’t lay off some pitches, sure. But he puts the ball in play at elite EV levels often. If he takes the next step (big if) he will be an Elite bat. With that said, history has shown those types of profiles (bad pitch recognition) don’t improve much. First four seasons: Baines 6% walk rate & 13% K rate. .272/.315/.447 Moutcastle 7% walk rate & 25% K rate. .263/.319/.457
  11. For fun. Not as much contact, but much more productive in fewer ABs through first 4 years. Permanent Link Permanent Link
  12. I thought he’d be on the team. But then again, I thought for sure Holliday would make the team this year. What do I know? I just think that if the goal was to get an extra year, they’d have made damn sure they got an extra year. Seems like an unforced error if they tired and missed.
  13. I don’t think that was their primary motivation. I think they have a super strict dev protocol and don’t deviate from it for any reason. They don’t seem like the bunch to miscalculate on a move like that. If the extra year was the prime motivator, they’d have kept him down longer v. Bringing him up to a team with no chance to compete.
  14. If the goal was to get another year, why not hold him down another month? What do they gain out of bringing him up when they did?Ike you said, they weren’t trying to compete in 2022.
  15. I guess those methodical cats just screwed the pooch. Seems unlikely but everyone is allowed their opinion.
  16. Part of rehab is playing games at a lower level. They didn’t game his service time. So you’re guy going with they tried to game gain time and they made a colossal mistake that cost them a year? Doesn’t seem consistent with how they operate.
  17. I think the Adley situation shows it isn’t about service time. He was slated to make the team out of spring and got hurt. After his rehab assignment in AAA he was brought up and not held down longer. I think it’s 100% a development play and no manipulation. It just happens to be an unpopular opinion. There dosnt need to be conspiracy theories for everything.
  18. 2 RBI single for Holliday. Would be impressive but not vs. a lefty lol. Tides laying a thumping on the Bulls. 14 hits in 4 innings is insane
  19. 32 strikes in 59 pitches through 3. Yikes. Not super efficient, but man he’s nasty.
  20. I like it a lot. Found it to make games more enjoyable last year. I imagine that will neither first iteration begin full on robo ump.
  21. Think we are seeing why they didn’t go too hard for additional pitchers. His stuff will play. What’s over/under on MLB IP for McDermott this year?
