  2. He can’t pitch 8th innings or in Spring Training. He only likes high leverage situations.
  3. Good post and good points. No doubt Povich needs command. And that’s the difference I see between the two. Povich gets outs with his stuff and Matusz got outs with his command. To be fair to Matusz, I’m pretty sure he was injured after the 2010 season. He was getting Ks in the minors at a good clip in 2009. After his 2010 workload he was never the same and the Ks never returned. Also his BB/9 is 3.8 not 4.5. It’s been as low as 2.1 in college and 2.8 in the low minors. It spiked in AA & AAA. To me that a guy working on pitches and who has stuff that moves so much it falls out of the zone. I think he will play a significant roll for the O’s in the future and as early as this year.
  4. Very true. He’s got the stuff, he needs to show he has the make-up to execute when the lights are on.
  5. Matusz never had swing and miss stuff. He was a command guy and a nibbler. Povich spins it right down the middle and dares the batter to try and hit it. And Povich doesn’t have bright red cheeks and a deer in headlights look on his face while he pitches.
  6. Very interesting man to say the least.
  7. Matusz had 261Ks in 279 IP (MiLB) Povich has 338 Ks in 250 IP Besides being left handed they aren’t remotely similar.
  8. It's a joke. I'll always root for him, he's a good dude. Except when we are playing against him. But you have to admit, those three jerseys really seem to make a player unlikeable
  9. Sounds like MLB Network is planning on at least showing the at bat.
  10. *As long as it's not the Yankees, Red Sox, or Blue Jays
  11. Its good to go. You're going to have to go with "trust me bro"
  12. The talent in this ST camp is pretty absurd. That's my takeaway so far. Everywhere you look you see talent. We could both trade away & demote some viable every day MLBers by the end of camp. Crazy.
  13. Agree, and I thought that before Bradish went down with the injury. You can never have too much pitching, period.
  14. He's a darn good player, for sure. 7.4 rWAR over 1050 ABs. He brings a lot to the table. Seems like an ideal candidate to get some decent low-level talent in return. Still waiting for them to start making those types of moves. It's started to get crowded in the Baltimore infield.
  15. Sorry missed this. The MVP Machine.
  16. I could’t agree more. I love these stories, even when they don’t always translate to on the field improvement. As they say “it’s the journey not the destination”. I think we are also stumbling on what the Orioles seem to prioritize; obtaining players who have the make-up & drive to make themselves the best version of themselves.
  17. I have a sneaking suspicion Urias is a late ST trade. I just don't see what value he provides this roster. He's redundant for the Orioles but is a legit MLBer and should have some takers. I think he'd be very attractive if someone loses a starter to injury sometime over the next month. I don't see how you can keep a talent like Mayo down in AAA when you are 'going for it'. Outside of injury or going 0 for the rest of spring training, Holliday will be going north with the club.
  18. I've always appreciated and agreed with @Just Regular when he uses the assets allotted to a player as a read on how much the front office values and thinks of that player. Elias gave up a legit talent, at a premium position, to obtain Irvin. I think the front office believes in him and foresees him having success. I think when the Irvin book in Baltimore has been written, it'll be a very positive one.
  19. Also, don’t sleep on the fact that when you are 19 turning 20 your body is a freak show hormone work house. If you play your cards right in those years
  20. His drive level from all I heard is 200%
  21. Stiff hips etc. is a strange read to me. He’s very athletic and has incredible mobility. I’m with you as well and pulling for him big time, was just curious if you’d seen something that I had missed.
  22. According to the socials, all he did was lift, hit, and eat all Off-season…..oh, and get married. He is very noticeably bigger. I blame married life for swinging through that breaking ball. It takes a toll.
