  1. Seems like the perfect opportunity to let him reset by going on the IL.
  2. No Hays against a LHP? He really is buried.
  3. So a guy gets overpaid, starts out the season terribly, and your first thought is how do I get that?
  4. What kind of psycho shaves every morning?
  5. He looks like a TJ surgery waiting to happen. Gotta figure you’d lose 1.5-2 years of however long you have him. What do you think it would take to trade for him?
  6. I mean he’s just not ready. I said keep him up here as recently as yesterday but he’s killing us. Probably should’ve pinch hit Urias or Mateo against the LH here in the 6th.
  7. I was interested in Stephenson but not at the price he got. Who do you think is worth trading away Kjerstad?
  8. Counter: Hays really wasn’t that good in the 1st half last year either. He produced, but was aided by a .389 BABIP in the 1st half, that returned to something closer to his career average (.303) in the second half (.288). Not to say this is who he is now, but I’d say he’s a slightly below average hitter overall who is useful as a platoon partner on this team. The talk about sending him down is silly, but I think Hyde now rightly sees he’s not an every day player given our other options.
  9. Milwaukee is also trying to make him a SP. He looked ready to add to last year’s improvement in the bullpen if kept in the same role. But bullpens are volatile. Who really knows. All the more reason to not trade legit power prospects for bullpen help.
  10. Absolutely not. Elias not making any additions except Kimbrel to the bullpen, while trading DL Hall has to be the biggest mistake of the offseason. Now RP will be expensive in the trade market and we may have to make the unnecessary decision to give up assets at the deadline.
  11. I believe it was 5. Either way, more than Means is making this year.
  12. What did Givens make last year?
  13. Norby, but I think it’s very unlikely he gets sent down. I think he probably has through the next home stand before being really evaluated. He’s only in Kyle Stowers territory now. He has some ABs to accumulate. But he won’t keep playing every day. I expect to see more Urias over the next week.
  14. I think Wells is in the bullpen unless absolutely needed as a SP. So if he’s the only one coming back, I can see him in the rotation. As far as the optionable guys, I don’t really care. Akin and Tate have options and have been bad. Sure send them down. But Baumann is not worth keeping up just because he has options. If Tate or Akin surpass him, I have no problem with a DFA for Baumann.
  15. You have to respect that they made an effort in free agency. Signing Lugo and Wacha, Will Smith, Renfroe. Their pitching additions would fit in well on this team right now. Should be a good series.
  16. However you wanna calculate it, he’s a diaper dandy.
  17. We have 5 guys on pace for 117 RBI.
  18. If a good defensive SS hits 54 HR and is only worth 8.1 WAR I’m gonna have some serious questions on their methodology.
  19. I’m not gonna go searching, but I’m pretty sure I was strongly in agreement with get rid of OHearn. I still mildly agree we should look to trade him but he hits the ball so hard and really hurts RHP. I could see him being of more use to us than a solid RP or SP depth. But that piece he can help us acquire plus Kjerstad is probably better than just OHearn himself.
  20. There’s a reason he had elbow trouble at the end of last year, and has started behind everyone this year. Do we have to bring him up?
  21. We have 6 guys in the bullpen who didn’t pitch yesterday. They can cover 5+ innings.
  22. Just keeping playing him. If he struggles for a couple more weeks, maybe you option him.
  23. I agree that if this were a video game, it would make sense to option Hays. But since these are real people, you have to treat them with the respect they’ve earned. Not to say Hays can play like this indefinitely, but there’s no reason to think he will.
  24. To me it seems they’re both dialed in and swinging at more pitches because of that. It’s a logical approach when you’re mashing the ball like these two. As they start to make more outs, they should become more selective. I do have some concern with Cowser’s K rate, as he’s always struggled with that. Good observation about the breaking pitches over the plate but falling below the knees. I hope it’s an adjustment they can make. I’m sure MLB breaking pitches drop more than what you see in the minors.
