If Stowers would have taken advantage of the 1st & 3rd, 1 out, opportunity in the first, maybe he would have been given a chance. Also, Mountcastle PH for Stowers.

Yeah he probably would have, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have had the opportunity in the 6th. It’s not a fail one time and you’re out sport.

I don’t disagree but Hays got screwed on a bad call and that hurt that at bat.

Of course, he didn’t need to swing at a pitch 2 feet outside either.

The second pitch that was kind of inside, but felt like a bad take. He stared at the first one right down the middle. And couldn’t catch up to a FB on the outside corner.

Agreed.  GRod should have pitched the 7th until someone got on base or if someone had a really long at bat.  Give him 15 pitches to get out of the inning.

That said, they lost that game the moment they didn’t score with the bases loaded and no one out.

Yep that’s when I turned it off. Pinch hitting Hays started the turn of fortune in this game. Doesn’t matter that there’s a LH on the mound. You give Stowers the opportunity to hit.

I think he could be had for a Kjerstad or Norby + a second tier guy (Beavers/etc). Mayve even slightly less. That vs Mason Miller who'd probably cost Mayo/Basallo, Kjerstad/Norby +.

There’s a big difference between Kjerstad and Norby.

You're secret is safe with me Jon! Whoops! :D

Wow, I had to keep going back through posts to figure out who was bragadocious and it’s exactly who I thought it would be. Good ole Uncle Rico.

I find it hard to believe that statistically, by whatever metric they use he wasn't even the worst ump in the game.

There’s plenty of bad umpires. He just became the poster child, probably through the audacity of his lawsuit.

He missed most of last year with a medical issue I believe, maybe he's had enough.

    Edit:

Hernandez worked only 10 games last season because of a back injury, but he missed 161 calls, according to Umpire Auditor.

Yeah I didn’t even realize that until reading the article. He still had enough bad calls to cover a full season.

    You must be new here.

Another week of hot hitting and there will be fantasy lineups for 2025 featuring 100% homegrown talent and debates on where he fits in said lineup every day, posts about how long he needs to be extended for and for how much and how he’s untradeable.

I mean you never trade a guy who just went 3-4 with 4 RBI. Unless the Pirates would move Skenes.

You may be right, but he has looked better lately (I have been following his season pretty closely as I spent fairly high draft picks on him in both of my fantasy leagues).

If he continues pitching well through the trade deadline, then I think both teams could at least come close to agreeing on his value, which, while doubtlessly still high, would be considerably lower than Miller and his 5 remaining years of control after 2024.

Agreed on Miller. He’s phenomenal, but is a TJ surgery waiting to happen. Our Miller will be back next year.

Mason Miller and his 5 years of control after 2024 will 100% cost you one of Holliday, Mayo, or Basallo (and then some, i.e. Povich or McDermott), so which one do give up for him? For me, it's an EASY "none of the above." Dude's already had one arm injury scare in his young career, his elbow is going to be shredded cheese before he ever completes the ~6 years of service time you are paying through the nose for and everyone knows it (which is the only reason the A's would even entertain trade offers for him in his first MLB season btw).

Go get someone like Ryan Helsley (FA after 2025) or David Bednar (FA after 2026) instead.

I don’t think you could agree with the Pirates on Bednar’s value now, unless you want to pay for last year’s results only. I like the idea of buying low on him but I don’t think the Pirates like it, especially after not moving him at last year’s deadline.

Lol, I am not against metrics, I am against using small sample sizes to pretend Akin is good. 4 outs or not, good pitchers don't get themselves in those situations, and find a way to get out of them when they do.

You seem to be against metrics if you’re always complaining about Baumann getting DFA instead of optioning Akin. Akin had bad results last year, but was a good pitcher.  Look at his K:BB ratio, his .434 BABIP, and his FIP. If he doesn’t have bad luck last year, he’s been very good the last 3 years.

Does the team even have 6 starters with both Kremer and Means on the IL.  IMO, the O's need to stop with the 6 starter nonsense.  Hyde struggles with a 8 man bullpen.  Giving him a 7 man bullpen is asking for trouble.

I haven’t heard any 6 SP talk since Means got injured.  We don’t even have 5 now.

Hyde struggles because of how he manages the pitcher in the game. Too quick with the hook on RP, unless they’re ‘respected.’

Come on, buddy.  MLB updated, including today’s game.  Stop using old news.  It’s .814.  Who knows, might be higher by May 31.

Yes, he’s cooled off from his .900 OPS in April.   It’s the bumping UP to .750 in June I’m disputing.

Now he can cruise the rest of the month. Westburg has been everything I hoped he would be. Our second best hitter.

With a little work, Vieira could be the next Heasley.  Can we just call him Vee.  His name is too much work until he proves himself worthy of the effort of spelling it correctly.

He’s got a Top 5 first name with Thyago.
