No guarantee he will hit any better.

What does that even mean. There’s no guarantee of anything. Don’t trade for Skubal. There’s no guarantee he’ll be better than Kremer. Don’t pinch hit Judge for Austin Wells, there’s no guarantee he’ll hit better.

If one thing is obviously not working, then do something else.

You weren't including the defense and hitting issues?

Roster configuration is odd. There’s not really a RH bat. But, there’s a guy in Norfolk who could help out if the GM would stop trying to play service time games and believe the owner who says he’ll spend.

Now, Hyde definitely has some bullpen management problems and an over deference to veterans, but I think the bigger problem is the complacency from Elias. Never made an effort to add pitching this off-season.

I tried to post this a while ago, but I suppose it’s still worthwhile to say that Austin Hayes is starting for Philly tonight

Sucks for Philly. Don’t know how they can view him as an every day player.

B for Orioles, A for Rays. The Orioles gave up too much for a pitcher with a plus 4.00 ERA. The Hays trade was awful; a decent outfielder for two bums.

On the subject of trades, if the O's surrender Holliday, Kjerstad, or Mayo for anyone, they are out of their minds. Trade Basallo and/or Bradfield instead. Of the MLB roster, get rid of Mullins, Urias, Mateo, Pache, and Perez, if anyone takes them.

Interesting the way you group the players you like and the players you don’t like.

Just an indicator of how sporadically he has played. We can't tell anything from 34 AB's either. There is also the question of who needs .700 OPS RH OF. I would be surprised (but not shocked) if he is traded.

Then send him down or release him. He provides no value.

I think it’s tempting but I’d prefer going a different route.   It all sounds great until Skubal has a tired arm or breaks down in September.   Even a healthy, dominant Skubal guarantees nothing.   If we get knocked out in the ALCS or worse or if Skubal gets injured it has the potential of the Glenn Davis trade.

I watched Skubal for the first 3 innings last night.   Impressive but not dominant.  Sure, it’s only one start and he only gave up one run but he also gave up 10 hits.  He’s not invincible and he’s headed for somewhere he’s never been before.  180+ innings.

How is it tempting? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

I think Elias is focused on getting a #3 starter and he is willing to trade young pitching to get him.   Johnson, Povich or McDermott could be traded along with a non top 4 prospect.   Elias is willing to take on salary.

    One target would be Bassitt.

Bassitt would be a decent target. I’d hope we don’t have to give up anything for him. The 21M he’s due next year is not desirable.

  8. I know it’s dumb to try and read between the lines, but the phrasing when talking about Holliday and Mayo is that they’ll help the Orioles. With Basallo it’s more about where he’ll end up and his bat potential. Almost like he’s selling Basallo. Of course, it’s most likely just that Mayo and Holliday’s descriptions are clearer because they’ll likely help this year.

Look... I don't typically post stuff like this, but since I have no idea how legit Kevacevic is I thought I'd share it.  Maybe someone here is familiar with him?  It seems HIGHLY unlikely at first glance, and probably non-factual (a nice way of saying B.S. LOL!).

It’s not illogical. Swapping out Holliday for a high value P prospect makes sense. I’d assume we’d get more players coming back since Holliday has more value.

Where did Seth Johnson come from?

Isn’t there a big difference in quality there? I assume it’s not a total refusal, but a refusal among impact players.

I tend to agree. Mounty potentially represents a player we could use to bring back stuff we need while not giving up more and more MiL pieces.

My thought is that we only have so many bullets to fire off. Now, you never know how teams feel about our players but if we are rightfully keeping our top 3 plus any young player on the ML team, we start to run out of ammo.

As has been discussed, the Os system starts to thin out a little and once you have dealt Norby, Stowers and Beavers, the options start to dry up fast.

So, how else can you do it? Well, with the extra WC and so many more teams involved, I personally believe you will start to see more contender/contender trades. Now, in this case Texas isn’t a contender but they think they will be next year and first base is a potential hole.

The Os, who have been playing Mayo at first recently, have first base options and Mounty is a guy who is likely not here next year.

So for me, he makes sense to shop if you get the right guys for him. Im Not sure I trade him for guys who can’t help this year or not, it would depend on the trade but if Mounty can be the key (only?) piece in getting Yates/LeClerg/Robertson and Scherzer, I’m all on board for that. I think that makes us a better team.

Now, if we can use MiLers to do that and we have enough left to make other moves, that’s fine too.

That’s a fair plan for trading Mounty. I wouldn’t hesitate to include him if the other team saw him as enough to replace someone like Norby in a package. But, given how this team is afraid of rookie playing time, I can’t see them putting Mayo in a spot where they’d have to rely on him against LHP.

I think we’ve talked about this, but I would love to replace James McCann with Jonah Heim. Jonah Hime is a gold glove winner and even though he’s having a really bad offensive year compared to last year, he’s worlds better than McCann and would make it much easier to rest Adley more often. He has already been mentioned as a non-tender candidate because he’s apparently expecting a significant raise despite his mediocre season. Lowe might be as well, but it’s probably doubtful that they would move him now.

The Rangers, as current champs, are going to take a huge PR hit if they trade anybody but their departing free agents.

Half of their top 20 prospects are pitchers, but most have only 40-45 future values.

All of their outfielders are scuffling right now, but they are all really good so I doubt they would make any outfield trades, and just hope for some improvement from their guys.

I would love to get Robertson and Yates, and I wouldn’t mind Scherzer either. But we don’t have anybody they really need.

Even if Heim were available, don’t you think a team that really needs a catcher is more likely to offer a better deal.

Could the Rangers be interested in Mountcastle?

Nate Lowe has a good BA/OBP but he has a sub 400 slugging and is likely going to be in the 10+M range next year. He seems like a prime candidate for a non tender.

Texas, if they sell, isn’t a team that’s going to rebuild but they certainly could sell off pieces that are free agents, like Yates and Scherzer but they only have so many long term holes.  First base could be one of those holes though.

Could we have something built around Mounty/Scherzer/Yates?

I can’t see them moving anyone from the ML team, except maybe Hays or Urias, in a deadline deal. Maybe move Mountcastle in the off-season.

O'Hearn in the outfield is never a good idea.   Yeah I want his bat in the lineup,  but yuck.  Plus with all the extra foul room in Oakland, just don't love the idea.

I’d rather Santander in the OF. Also, no reason for Hays to play over Cowser and Kjerstad with a RHP.

He might be someone we’ve gotta start in a playoff game.

If it’s by necessity because of injuries, I guess. But I’ll be disappointed if he’s better than the #5 SP.
