  1. I would think Ruiz would be the one to be worried by performance, but the dollars for Hanser may be the deciding factor?
  2. Is this the reason for some of the cost cutting? Coaches being let go for example.
  3. @Tony-OH Just another quick thank you for the time and effort of doing this. Makes my lunchtime reading very enjoyable!
  4. Apparently baseball reference was two games behind. Straily didn't strike out 15 in one game, but 11 in one and 9 in another. 12 was his highest total this year. Just was curious... https://mykbostats.com/players/1949-Dan-Straily-Lotte-Giants
  5. Personal note, I do wish people would not take disagreements personally or even just with irritation. This thread turned into a fantastic read and discussion, I've enjoyed reading the discussion on both sides of the table. One thing I did not take not of with this Yaz discussion (and maybe I missed it, it was a lot to read) is that the Giants were desperate for outfield help at the time. Even more than our awful rebuilding team, right? And that also allowed for an extended look for Yaz? Maybe the light doesn't come on if he doesn't get this opportunity (which, right or wrong, it didn't look like he was going to get with the O's).
  6. I for one and glad the topic is reopened, so that when I briefly saw the thread title Saturday morning and then noted it was gone later, that I was not totally losing my mind! ? Although, I did google Elias and fraud and found the news and saw it was debunked so figured that was why the thread was removed if it had existed.
  7. Baseball reference has him at 185K's. I know they are slow to update, but if they are only missing one game then he struck out 15 in his last outing. Pretty impressive. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=strail001dan
  8. Machado a gold glove finalist: https://www.mlb.com/news/2020-gold-glove-finalists
  9. Nice quick bat flip at 0:21, quick hands on the swing and the flip!
  10. And if they don't exercise the option and sell it as a cost of Covid and no fans, does it really mean they are getting the team ready to be sold? Could that possibly be the real reason for the spending concerns?
  11. I like the Arthur Rhodes "comp", for nothing else than Rhodes was one of my favorites back in the day. And he did make a heck of a career as a reliever. I'd take that for Akin for sure, but hoping he can stick as a 4th/5th starter. Either way watching the O's starting pitching is going to be the most enjoyable it has been in quite a while.
  12. I was going to post about this podcast as well, listened to both available episodes and the podcast itself, is done very well. Even delving into the past about Astrodome and Astro's owner they called "The Governor". I've listened to Reiter on his CBS radio show before and really like him as a host and as I am sure most here already know that he wrote Astroball. I was going to note the part about the Seattle employee who stated they did posthumously analyze the signals of at least the Astro's, I am sure they did this with other teams as well (AL west, all of the AL, not sure, it is not said), but does come in line somewhat with what @Can_of_corn has been saying about most/all teams/players are trying to cheat (or find that Edge as noted in the podcast) in some way or form all the time, just that the Astro's just got caught. I still think the Astro's took it too far, way beyond what anyone or any organization had done previously IMO, but it will be interesting to hear the rest of this podcast and get an inside look at an organization trying to find any edge they can get to get to the top. I do sure hope the timeline for the O's is closer to how it worked out for the Astro's and not what they had estimated as their goal. Also, to keep this Orioles related there are mentions of Elias and Sig and the development of the analytics they use to draft players (more Sig than Elias so far).
  13. Saw this post and went to look at see when Zack is a free agent again and saw the Yankees have a decision to make after the world series: $1m assignment bonus if traded. Club must decide on 2022 option following 2020 WS; if club declines 2022 option, then Britton may opt out of contract immediately. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/brittza01.shtml
  14. Wow. I knew I hadn’t checked or watched for a day or two. But I am several days behind. Been focusing on the French open more. That my excuse. ?
  15. I still want the Padres in the World Series. Even with maniac Manny.
  16. That could be smart for a year or two until fans get back. Two good single years followed by a 3-4 year contract at age 31 might be better than a lower value 6-7 year contract now. Either way, just as long as the dude keeps tweeting!
  17. The OP was yes, but the reply from @OriolesMagic83 was to the article you originally posted, which @Frobby noted about Gunnar. I was replying to @glenn__davis who was replying to OriolesMagic who was replying to the article on Gunnar. Phew...
  18. I think he was referring to Gunnar, but Weams is also correct on mistakes in the post. For one Gunnar had a .701 OPS not a .594 OPS.
  19. Also had forgotten about Blaine Knight, I remember being excited by him at the end of 2018 and that he struggled in 2019. Went back and looked and saw it was really bad at Frederick for him last year. Can't remember, did he have a velocity drop or injury or something?
  20. Same. Saw Dax Stubbs and wondered if he was Drew Stubbs son. But then saw Drew is only 36, so maybe not, nephew maybe? Former MLB players relatives seem to working well for the BlueJays! Sorta...
  21. I find posting from my phone is so difficult for many reasons, I generally only do so when on the laptop. iPhone tries to "help" too much.
  22. Kept restarting reading your post thinking you were bringing humor of some sort into the post, but alas I am slow, after a few restarts, I realized you meant tiers. Now I am in tears for taking so long to figure that out.
  23. He said players of note and I would say that his name alone is noteworthy!
  24. I thought that was hard to believe and have a subscription, so had to go read it and it does look like a large part of the decision was financial. Opening line of the Article: The decision not to renew the contracts of two Orioles coaches for 2021 is rooted in the organization’s continual restructuring of its business plan, which, like that of most teams, has taken a significant financial hit in 2020. https://theathletic.com/2109598/2020/10/02/connolly-why-the-orioles-moved-on-from-coaches-doug-brocail-and-jose-flores/?source=dailyemail

    Shane Bieber

Yes, I know he had a rough outing last night. Yes I know he would not have sustained what he was doing through this truncated season over a 162 game season. Yes, I know almost no pitcher throws much over 200IP anymore ( @DrungoHazewood had a great post somewhere in this message board about the declining totals of innings pitched per season by starting pitchers)....but...if Bieber had somehow gotten to 254IP while maintaining his K rate, he would have struck out 400 batters!! Just seeing him get well into the 300's would have been something (again if he was able to come close to maintaining that pace (queue @weams to tell me how fragile pitchers arms are ?). Still what a stat line he put up this year.
