Too bad the Rangers have to leave town. O's could get back in this if they had a few more games against them.

Heart will get you some come-from-behind wins. Heart plus a really god bullpen should get you a lot of them.
Add a Dylan Bundy being anywhere close to what he showed on Wednesday and you have a title contender.

Buck played that game like he had one hand tied behind his back. Did he realize he had more than one lefty middle reliever in the pen? Why did he give away one of his last six outs when he had good PH options on the bench?
-
We were/are basically tied with Toronto at the trade deadline.
They add: Tulo, Price, Revere, and Lowe
We add: Parra
and we are somehow more likely to compete for the last WC spot?
In a vacuum this is a bad trade, placed in context with what the other contenders added this is a horrible trade with zero upside.
The Blue Jays have +56 run differential on the O's. One of those teams was already better than the other.
-
As I've made clear, I hate this trade. Hopefully he just goes nuts, though, gets us to the playoffs and we can hit him with a QO.
No QO for in-season acquisitions.
-
I'd rather watch Gausman, Ubaldo, Gonzo, Tillman, and a sweet free agent starter that we sign in the offseason. We'll see about Davies.
$$$ will be spent on position players. Not SP.

I mentioned his higher FB% and lower GB% earlier.
-
This doesn't make much sense to me. If they sign him before he hits free agency, it's a direct result of the trade. If would have been impossible without the trade.
You don't think agents know what other teams are interested during the negotiating window?
-
This is a Duquette kind of trade. A moderately talented, moderately-projected prospect for a pretty good short-term guy. Not a fan of rentals. There is risk here. Parra is not going to guarantee a playoff spot in any way. But in the end it's probably a trade of a couple wins for a guy who's not going to be an impact talent in the majors. Probably. Interested if they want to try to resign Parra, but that really has no impact on the trade.
This is how I see it as well. I just don't see the O's having a realistic shot at the post-season, so that makes the move a negative for me.

Somewhat true, but in theory the 7th, 8th, 9th batters won't be on as much as the 9th-2nd batters in general.
This isn't the National League. I'd rather have Manny get the extra ABs over the course of the year.
EDIT: I should clarify that. I'd rather have Manny get the extra ABs over the course of the year if there isn't a better option in the lead-off spot. He was the best option to lead-off the first 100 games of this season, but Parra is a better option now.
-
Manny has 21 homeruns and 17 solo shots. That's a waste.
But how many of those were actually leading off a game? That's the only one you can control.
-
So then you expect that Pythag to normalize within 60 games?
No, but if I'm projecting the next 60 games, performance during the first 100 + trade additions plays a significant role. The Jays are better than the O's, Twins, Rays, and White Sox.
-
Right and the Jays traded for Price and Tulo this year and didn't make the playoffs.
Eh, but they will. That's one of the best teams in baseball. -10 against their expected Pythag, -7 against their expected BaseRuns.
-
He already fills the lead off position that was claimed by absolutely no one so far.
I thought that kid from Miami did pretty well hitting lead off.
-
Neither the Giants nor the Royals were world beaters in the regular season last year. Nor the Cardinals before that. All wild card winners and World Series teams. Trust in the playoff power of small sample size.
And the A's traded for Jon Lester and didn't make it past Day 1.

Thank you for taking the time to give me your opinion. Now, Dan. Parra has been in the league for 9 years. He's accrued 4.6 DWAR over the course of those 9 years, with 4 of those 4.6 wins coming in one season. He played Stellar D once in his career. He's not a stellar defender. People whined about De Aza playing Defense but he's also been better than Parra this year. Snider was flamed for no power, Parra has no power. This isn't a move that puts a team over the top.
.189 ISO this year, but .128 on his career. I'm not saying I like the trade, but he has definitely shown pop this season. Fly ball rate is up and ground balls are down. The guy is driving the ball.

Just because you will, I won't... my opinion of the Royals, Astros, and Blue Jays this trade deadline:
And the Padres are up on the counter, not even bothering to try to eat anything.

Fire breathing space cats! This piece is a metaphor for Duquette and the pressures of being a GM in the AL East. I encourage you to meditate on it and find what it means to you. Is he vaporizing the competition? The farm system? You decide.
It's a cat. It could be spitting fire on just about anything--just because it feels like it.
I think it perfectly represents the Dodgers over the last few years. Why do they make the moves they do? Because they can.

What else do the Orioles have to offer for Cespedes outside of Gausman?
Tigers can't get a comp pick for Cespedes. And how many teams are looking for a COF? The market isn't there to warrant a high level spec for Cespedes.
-
You laugh, but DD is insane. He might do it. Just watch.

If he was going to do something like that, he would have moved Gausman for Price or Lester last season.

LOL at all these teams asking for Gausman, Manny, and Schoop. There are what, 3 teams looking for COFs and several players available...and Tigers can't get a comp pick for Cespedes. Davies+ should be the value for Yoenis.

It doesn't hurt and what is Davies going to do for us next year?
If we are serious we will be signing a FA SP better than Davies. If not who cares.
How about trading Davies in the offseason for someone who can actually help the team accomplish something? The 2015 team is toast.
I'm not one of the people pounding the table, saying how awful the trade is. I'm just being realistic and saying it's a silly move to make when the team isn't going anywhere.

Currently our LF is.210 .283 .330 .612, so you don't think a worst case .737 won't move the needle?
It makes the O's a better team for 2 months, but is it enough to get them to the playoffs and past the WC game? That's my definition of "moving the needle."
Playoffs expand to 16 this year after all

Best chance the O’s will have at the playoffs for the next few years.
