I'd rather discount Pujols from the equation since his age is in question and the draft was a lot different but he was also not a first round pick. So three of seven or four of eight mentioned were not first round picks. That's not rare, it's actually higher than I think any of us would have guessed. It wasn't a bad listen and I do appreciate the link but they aren't making really strong statements.

They did, but I'm pretty sure that title is meant to imply that all the other MLB teams passed on him. Which they themselves mention didn't happen.

Sure, I just think folks underestimate the miss rate on non-HS pitchers. If Torkelson can miss, anyone can miss. Yes I know his story isn't over.

Or you can draft a college pitcher that got abused by his coaches and ends up with a sore arm. Or you can draft a toolsy HS position player and he ends up not hitting. Or you can draft a sure fire can't miss college 1B/DH 1-1 and then end up having to send him down in his third season because somehow he can't hit. There is risk with all draft picks.

Not sure what you mean? Hardly anyone hits for a high average these days. The way I see it two out of 38 seems pretty average, It's not an area of weakness compared to other teams.

I did a quick check and it looks like 38 guys are hitting 280 or above. O's have two of them.
