    I think some players, Davis and Jones come to mind, look smooth in the field. I think the eye test overrates their actual performance. In other words Davis and Trumbo both might not get to a ball in the outfield but Davis will look better (not) doing it.

    No he wasn't. At best he was better than average at the position they put the next to worst fielders. That still puts him way down on the overall list of defenders.

    I wonder how long the O's streak of consecutive losing seasons would have stretched if they had been getting hit with draft pick penalties?

    I think mandating a 9 man pitching staff will just increase offense and lengthen games. Lets stretch out starters and relievers longer while increasing the weapons the manager has on offense. I know I don't enjoy watching a pitcher being hung out to dry because the manager has to save the bullpen.

    Sounds to me like someone didn't get paid for a scorching first half. Good for Nick, he's on a good team.

    I imagine that at least occasionally deals are made just to control where a player lands.

    I don't think it has anything to do with service clocks. I don't think the O's had anyone internally that they thought could do the job.

    I think the sons are going to be more dependent on the team as a source of revenue than the father and that it is reasonable to question their commitment to spending money in ways they have never spent before.

    I think we are but I wouldn't use collecting Rule V middle infielders as evidence. ? The top Short Stops in the draft are high school kids so they are years away.

    I didn't give an opinion one way or another. I'd probably grade him a C last year, he threw well early and then fell off. I don't think there are more than a couple A+ guys at a time. Wieters was one for a season. Before that maybe Dempsey for the O's?
