  1. Mayo just killing us there, can't even hit the ball deep enough to advance the runner!
  2. Could be, or maybe he didn't want to go to the west coast because of the family issues he was dealing with. He also only had no trade protection for 10 teams, one of which was the Dodgers. Were the O's one of the other nine? Odds are they weren't. The above quote is from a thread last year that doesn't source the statement.
  3. I don't offhand know the contract length of any of the guys at his organizational level. I've never looked for it but if it was commonly disseminated information I think I'd know at least a couple. My guess is this type of secrecy is standard. You don't want everyone to know your chief guy is a lame duck.
  4. I don't think they gave up too much. I think they should have given up more to get more. Elfin was fine as one of a series of moves. The O's needed reliable starters to lock down a playoff appearance this season. This deadline wasn't just about setting up for the playoffs. He's also under team control past this year. You can make a deadline deal for a impact guy in their walk year a lot less expensively. Would I have liked them to go big for a starter? Sure, but none of the big names ended up being moved. Last year we know that Eduardo was on the market and that's what I remember being the move I wanted to make (for a starter).
  5. I don't think he's going to make that September second target.
  6. I consider it a flawed process. He spent minimal resources for marginal gains. I think in that situation you should be targeting players that are more likely to make a large, positive, impact.
  7. I'll sign up for some 2-4 win seasons while under team control.
  8. I don't think they were the type of impact moves that increase the team's chances once they got to the playoffs. I'd compare getting Fuji to Dan getting Andrew Miller. One move is a definitive move designed to increase the team's chances of advancing in the playoffs and the other a buy low lottery ticket. I think when you have a team that is almost a lock to make the playoffs you make the Miller Move. Same with Flaherty, I don't want a rental that is going to slot in as a #4. I'm pretty sure I said something similar when the moves happened.
  9. Having the data they do now and giving the ump's feedback after every game behind the plate has improved their performance so we do have a precedent.
  10. I certainly wasn't saying that. But one WS appearance in more than 40 years? One Championship series in the last 25 years? If they get bounced in the first round this year I'm going to view it more as a missed opportunity than a success. I'm going to see it as a year of Adley/Gunnar/Burnes wasted. Is that an entirely reasonable take? No, but that's how I'm going to feel.
  11. I get it, and I do very much care about day in and day out the team doing well. But I don't want to hear about not getting swept, having the best regular season record and other stuff of that ilk when the team isn't having success in the post season. They haven't been to a WS since '83. They've been to one ALCS in the current millennium. If they win the division with 93 wins and get bounced in the ALDS are you going to consider the season a success? I should but I won't.
  12. Did you miss the part where I said diesel? The Diesel it came with was 105 HP and that was before it blew up. We couldn't get our hands on the Old's 350 that would have dropped right in.
  13. I am in favor of the ABS system. That being said it isn't always laziness or incompetence. Is 100% accuracy and an immunity to framing techniques a requirement for being considered "competent"? As for the car thing, back in the 90's I drove a '79 Seville, two toned black and grey. The diesel engine had been replaced with a Chevy 350 with a 4 barrel. It was invisible to police. If it had been a red sports car, I guarantee you with how I drove I would have gone broke with tickets. We can gnash our teeth about it all we want but it's a thing.
  14. I think they are keeping Mayo off the field just to obscure his sprint speed.
  15. How much of that favoritism is the result of framing?
  16. I don't think worrying about wining and losing trades is in any way helpful. I want to see a solid process. The Burnes trade in my opinion was good process, the Fuji and Flaherty trades last season were not.
  17. Don't get me wrong, I vastly prefer the team to win regular season games but I don't think fans of teams that do well in the playoffs worry about stuff like this. Did you know the Ravens won the most regular season games last year?
  18. You forgot to put (doubt it) next to Jimenez.
  19. This gives off strong "The 2012-2016 Orioles led the American League in Wins" energy.
  20. If it was he would have been sent down immediately to work on things.
  21. Some of us have been saying all along that the idea that all you have to do is draft bats and trade the surplus for pitching was overly simplistic.
  22. Ticket prices ain't coming back down. If the players don't get it the owners will just keep it. I'd rather it be the players.
  23. If there was only some way to see how he has performed in the playoffs. Oh wait... Six games, 8 IP, 2 GF, 3H, 8K, 2BB, 0R. 4% WPA https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/holmecl01.shtml
