  1. Position players like Billy Ripken, Craig Worthington, Larry Sheets, and maybe David Segui and Jeffery Hammonds could be considered every day players for awhile in that time frame.
  2. Are you locked in at these win total numbers? Or do they change throughout the offseason?
  3. Taking into account their relative health and track record, do you present this contract to Giolito as opposed to giving the Qualifying offer to Gibson?
  4. Great. Thanks for the info. Get the lease done. If something else happens separately, great, or good, or meh. I don't care.
  5. Definitely yes. After Jones and Markakis, he probably is the next best retired. Maybe have a poll to guess the years. Should we stretch out the players because it gets thin after them until Machado retires (and that can be a long time).
  6. FWIW, Burnes to Orioles came up in the MLBTR chat. Ortiz alone got a response that Steve Adams didn't think so, but Matt Arnold may feel differently. The package proposed from Jim Bowden is way too high IMHO. https://live.jotcast.com/chat/chat-with-mlbtrs-steve-adams-11-15-23-16995.html Orioles 1:11 Is Joey ortiz enough for Corbin burnes? Steve Adams 1:12 I don't think so, but maybe Matt Arnold feels differently. In general though, if the offer you're constructing for a top-tier trade target like Burnes consists of someone (or someoneS) who feel largely superfluous to the current big league product, it's probably light. That's not a knock on Ortiz -- more so just a comment on the depth the O's generally have in the infield.
  7. I should have said would instead of could
  8. Correct. But this could be part of the negotiations. MLB would love to have an owner's group that could dissolve the MASN agreement.
  9. It's not the rumor as cited above. But maybe Rubenstein (as an individual) would be majority owner and Carlyle Group owns a minority share along with the current minority owners.
  10. Good thing we left McKenna on the 40-man roster to take one of the super-two slots.
  11. If it is another one-year deal at $10M (or a little more), I'd do it. I think we'll be risk averse as to long-term deals, especially for pitchers.
  12. Obviously not in the big-name, multi-year realm, but how about Jose Quintana as a one-year deal trade option? The Mets are not going to compete in 2024 and this is his last year at one year, $13M. He seemed to be healthy upon his return. If we're going for an injury risk-type (like Maeda) one year deal, Quintana is a lefty starter. This may be reasonable. Would a nominal trade of Tate for Quintana make sense? https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/q/quintjo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&utm_campaign=2023-10-11_br
  13. I still have my Jim Palmer signature on the seat cushion give away from seat cushion day. No one has ever sat on it. I also have Brooks' signature on "Third Base is my Home" from one of his book signings. Let's watch the game and root for them for the rest of the series.
  14. BTW, I still have my Millennium Falcon (not your Dukes of Hazard version, but the original, unaltered one) and the box. But the box is little beat up from numerous moves. We're all rooting for the O's to win the next few hours, days, and weeks. Take care. On the off chance, we don't win and you sell, I'm interested.
  15. https://www.mlb.com/orioles/roster/transactions This was what I meant by the 5 recalls in one day. Take care. Let's go, O's.
  16. The five in one day reminds me of the limit of passing players through waivers a few years ago. If this is a limit, I don't know why another 5 weren't processed the next day. The Zimmermann and McKenna issues are probably due to the 10-day rule unless someone else goes on the IL. More importantly, we'll be down to a 26 roster for the next series. Let's go O's.
  17. Maybe they just want to preserve Cowser's rookie status for next year.
  18. How does the weather delay seem? FWIW, I'm a MLB TV Florida transplant getting the event is in weather delay. Thanks
  19. I haven't read up on everything. But is there is a time frame that the $600M sunsets? That is, does a long-term lease need to be in place by date X to get the $600M? I don't think that a bill authorizing such money can extend too far in the future.
  20. Cowser still has less than 45 days of service time. So, he keeps his rookie status intact. Convenient timing. Hopefully, Holliday comes up on Aug 31 and helps the O's to the WS and keeps his rookie status into next year. Then, the O's rookies will go 1 and 2 in the ROY voting in 2024 to rack up the extra draft picks after Henderson wins ROY this year.
  21. Seldom poster; but I agree with you (and many others). FWIW, I'm an old Baltimore Colts Marching Band alum that lived through that. In the past, Johnny Unitas was always there to light the Christmas tree in Woodlawn. In the late sixties, all of the seventies, most of the eighties and early nineteens, my family lived off Windsor Mill Road and my parents always commented on the way to Memorial Park as we passed Tucker Lane that Jim Palmer lived there when they moved there in late 1965 into 1966. Gene Brabender and Harvey Haddix were there also in that time frame (and a few others that I don't remember). I didn't adopt the Ravens when they assumed the old Colts stats. The long-term lease needs to be signed as soon as possible. I want that resolved now. As much as I like Kevin Brown, this is secondary as to the Orioles as a whole. Take care, Eric
  22. It was changed a couple of years ago to 45 non-IL days during the regular season. https://www.mlb.com/glossary/rules/rookie-eligibility Rookie Eligibility Definition A player shall be considered a rookie unless he has exceeded any of the following thresholds in a previous season (or seasons): • 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues. • 45 total days on an active Major League roster during the Championship Season (excluding time on the Injured List). A player must have rookie eligibility to be considered for any MLB rookie awards -- such as the American League or National League Rookie of the Year Award -- or appear on any MLB Pipeline prospect lists.
  23. Hope he gets that extra $100K for World Series MVP. Lol. But I think it's a reasonable pick up that does not cost too much. We still have the second lowest payroll. https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/oakland-as-ink-3-25m-deal-with-japanese-pitcher-shintaro-fujinami/ Fujinami would earn $100,000 for MVP, $75,000 for finishing second in the voting and $50,000 for third, and he can earn similar bonuses for Cy Young Award balloting. He would get $50,000 for making the All-Star Game, $100,000 for World Series MVP or Silver Slugger, and $50,000 for Gold Glove or League Championship Series MVP. He will be a free agent at the end of the contract.
  24. He was DFA'd and outrighted in 2022 also. https://www.milb.com/player/luis-torrens-620443 August 14, 2022Seattle Mariners sent C Luis Torrens outright to Tacoma Rainiers. August 11, 2022Seattle Mariners designated C Luis Torrens for assignment.
