Hall pitched 3.0 innings of no-hit baseball and struck out 1 to earn his 10th win of the season. Hardin allowed 3 runs on 9 hits with 3 strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work. Merv Rettenmund hit his 18th homerun of the year and went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. BOX SCORE

The eventual winning runs scored on a Mark Belanger sacrifice bunt that was mishandled by Cleveland pitcher Fred Lasher and allowed Don Baylor to score and a Frank Robinson 2-run homerun. Jim Palmer started and lasted 8.2 innings, allowing 4 runs, including 3 in the bottom of the 9th, on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts. Graig Nettles 3-run homerun in the 9th chased Palmer from the game. The Orioles were shutout 2-0 for a second day in a row in what was a complete game duel between Mike Cuellar (8.0 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 4K) and Dick Bosman (9.0 IP, 5 H, 4 K). Two of the Orioles five hits came from pinch hitters Johnny Oates and Curt Motton. The Orioles record stood at 96-53. BOX SCORE
