  1. Yeah I like the deal overall, just think there is a clear need for quality relief innings now and not entirely sure how they are covered if not from outside the org.
  2. I think Hall is a bit underrated. He would be a valuable contributor and provide many quality innings in ‘24. They will need to add a reliever.
  3. Agree on all fronts, although when you tick through movement data on baseball savant it is interesting how varied the movement profiles are for 4SFBs and 2SFBs across the league. Bradish added a 2-seam FB towards the end of the season to great effect, so hopefully GRod will experience similar success. It seemed to me (purely anecdotally) that he began to have success when he was able to locate his FB consistently at the bottom of the zone, and pitching up with it only selectively in strikeout counts. Earlier in the season it seemed like every FB was up, intentionally or not.
  4. Watch some highlights from last year, his 4-seam has a bit of a tail off to the right occasionally. Maybe exaggerated by the center field camera angle in Camden Yards. Check out the “observed movement by pitch type” graphic on his baseball savant page.
  5. His 4-seamer occasionally had very similar movement to that you would expect of a right handed 2-seamer. Either that or he was already throwing it from time to time in-game last season.
  6. Not a stats driven comment necessarily, mostly just his age (35) and the standard risk of variable year to year performance for relievers (although I don't know if that is empirically justified for older relivers who have a track record of success). But you're right, checking his Baseball Savant page and the numbers are more impressive than I had realized.
  7. Yeah, let him sign the Dodgers. Anywhere but the AL East really.
  8. Not crazy about Kimbrel. The wheels are bound to fall off soon. But exactly the kind of discount shopping I'd expect.
  9. Out of curiosity, I read through some of the 10-K Fantex filed for FY 2015: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1573683/000155837016004003/fntx-20151231x10k.htm#Item_1_Business Was wondering how detailed the risk factors would be. Amusing to consider the possibilities in the event one were to be excessively granular. "[X] has demonstrated an above league average chase rate against breaking pitches out of the strike zone. In the event that [X] is not able to improve his swing decisions on breaking pitches, it may be difficult for [X] to maintain his level of offensive performance."
  10. Some years I follow the playoffs closely and enjoy the excitement of playoff baseball. On years when the O's have participated (and let's be honest - it's a small sample size), I am generally too disappointed by their exit to have any desire to follow the post-season any further.
  11. Hoping for the Twins to come back, eliminate the Stros, and then dial up the Rangers bullpen for 4 late game winners.
  12. Tbh, I don’t really have high hopes for free agency after this last offseason. When is the last time this organization made a real splash? The 90s? Payroll was reasonable in the 2010s, but it’s not like they brought in any stars. Any real hot stove action will have to be on the trade front.
  13. Need a TOR arm. Could use at least one and probably two experienced and proven BP arms. Need more pitching depth in the minors in general. Offense needs to improve too, although suspect much of that will need to come from within the organization, whether it be playing time for rookies or improvement from Gunnar and Adley. Curious what the plan will be for our AAAA guys like Mateo and Urias (I realize that’s not an entirely fair assessment of their quality).
