  1. I see it both ways. I think Irvin and Wells have enough track record to deserve some time to turn it around and give quality starts. Means will make it back at some point, still not sure on Bradish. But beyond Povich at AAA, there isn't much MLB ready pitching coming from the minors. And with guys like "Yohan Ramirez" in our bullpen, its unfortunate that our best bullpen depth is in the starting rotation at the moment. The Orioles have a pitching depth problem. Injuries and under performance can happen, as do new performers that can come out of no where. I know Elias has got to be looking for quality SP and RP options to help create more MLB pitching depth, and possibly a high level impact arm or two to take some immediate stress off the staff.
  2. The O's really missed on Montgomery in my opinion. He's already had TJS so I think he might be fairly durable moving forward. I thought he'd be a good investment on a 4 or 5 year deal for 85-125 million, he's left handed, and he has a ring. But to not make an offer when he ends up signing for 1 year 25? I liked trading for Burnes, but its for 1 year and we (at least the fans) didn't forsee the Bradish and Means' situations. Losing both showed our depth really isn't there yet for SP Also, long term, what is the plan for starting pitching? Immediate and future? I see it currently as Burnes, Grayson, ______, ______, Kremer. I think Kremer will be fine: lots of weak hits and a wind assisted dinger; today wasn't as bad as it looked. I made a comment the other day that others didn't like: Kremer is a great #5 starter on a high caliber playoff contender. Wells and Irvin make the bullpen better if we can replace them in the rotation. If Means returns 1) how effective is he coming back from this injury compared to what Wells and Irvin bring and 2) no matter how he performs, he's only here for 1 more year. Even if Bradish returns, he's very likely to have TJS at some point in the next year or two (just my guess after hearing Elias talk speak on Bradish today and also considering the trends in injury/surgery among elite arms) If Bradish doesn't return or Means is equal than or less than Irvin or Wells, how long does Elias wait to make a trade? When does he think Povich is ready? McDermott? Does he feel comfortable going to Rookies for pitching help especially if they aren't a Top 100 guy? We ain't got much at AAA. Next year, as it stands, we have Bradish (maybe), Grayson, Kremer, Wells, Irvin, Povich, McDermott? In the past the Orioles don't spend money on FA starters. Still probably two seasons before we see results from Elias and Perez' efforts in the International market. We got some decent starter prospects scattered between Bowie and Aberdeen. But, worst case Scenario, we are looking at ______, Grayson, _______, _______, Kremer; we need to fill in the blanks effectively if we want to compete for a World Series in 2025 So what's the plan Mike?
  3. I also didn't see the game tonight, so not sure how they pitched him compared to Boston
  4. The early scouting report on Holliday seems to be pitch away with off speed, and if you get ahead, then work back in and/or up with the FB with 2 strikes
  5. They all can't be Curtis Goodwin

    Bullpen

As a HS Pitching Coach, I have used this with my pitchers
  7. Does this injury hinder him offensively? How long until fully recovered?

I felt that we learned Cano is not a closer last year. Great set up, gets grounders, not a lot of Ks. I wonder where Kimbrell was. We paid the man 13 million; he can't work on back to back days? If Kimbrell truly couldn't go, then I do think you keep rolling with Akin there. Were seeing early that were are short 1 good relief arm and 1 good starter
  9. His defense helped him a lot today. Great #5 on a playoff contender

  11. He tweeted a passive aggressive quote commenting on how he's excited about his 3rd year with the Norfolk Tide
  12. I think the O's are all in on keeping Santander, offering the QO or working out a deal, and taking the draft pick if he leaves. Him and Burnes will bring back 2 draft picks at the very least. Means doesn't bring one back right?
  13. Thought about adding Mullins, but I don't think we have a true CF replacement yet, and he's also a guy that I think can peak his value for a trade this offseason if he stays healthy and performs well this season I do not want to see Mayo or Basallo go, but if there's a trade deadline deal that Elias feels he needs to get done and these guys aren't up yet, he might pull the trigger, but it would have to be a DUDE. Crossing my fingers Mayo is up by the end of May and Basallo forces himself onto the roster by Sept
  14. I've done threads like this in the past when the O's were rebuilding. This year, the theme changes bc we have a new problem: older vets being pushed out or a surplus of blocked prospects at the AAA level Being Pushed Out: Not all of these guys may have trade value and may need to be DFA'd if a prospect pushes through and takes a job. Austin Hays - Off to a slow start, but was an All Star last year. Cowser and the OFs at AAA needs to make it tough for Elias. Personally I think Hays would be great in the role Ryan McKenna used to have. Get some starts against LHP, defensive replacement for Santander, etc, and could spell Mullins in CF if he needs a rest. If he's traded, the return might be minimal, or he could be part of a bigger package. Ramon Urias - Him and Tony Kemp may have to be DFA'd bc there is not much trade value. Maybe someone would give a lottery ticket DSL prospect. Jorge Mateo - If he remains the PR and Super Utility guy, I like the idea of keeping him, but you dangle him out there and if someone overbids, Elias may need to consider it as he is expendable for the right cost. Ryan O'Hearn - The 1B/DH is not an OF. I like the LH Bat in the lineup against RHP and as a PH option late. I feel he fits on our roster, you hope he gets hot and you dangle him out there and see if you get a decent return as he could be replaced by some of the AAA guys coming up. Ryan Mountcastle - I like the guy and he's playing well. A more hitter friendly stadium would serve him well. I'm in no rush to trade him, but thinking ahead, he could have higher arbitration salaries than you'd like to pay for a 1B w/ his underlying offensive numbers. Mayo and Basallo could possibly replace his production sooner than later. He's a guy that you hope a team overbids on him a little, or he has to be part of a bigger package. James McCann - Not pushing this at all if I'm Elias, just answering any phone calls from a Catcher-desperate team. Basallo, Handley, or somebody else would need to replace his role as the very dependable backup catcher, which is a tough set of shoes to fill. Ryan McKenna - Already DFAd and cleared waivers. But maybe there's a team out there that wants his rights now that he isn't on the 40 man and could potentially offer him a quicker return to an MLB roster. A Surplus Reliever? - Our bullpen is a wildcard as there is a lot of depth all the way down into AAA, but its not very deep at the top tier. If Elias ends up bringing in a reliever via trade, or things get complicated with certain players' options, he might make a small trade; if not, he will probably DFA a reliever or two Prospect Surplus: I am not advocating for any particular prospect to be traded, and there are many prospects at hte lower levels that could be traded, but this is the AAA Depth that is getting crowded. Room needs to be made at the MLB level for these guys or they need to be traded for the pieces we need while they still have prospect status Connor Norby - Killing it out the gate and obviously bitter. I'd take him at 2B over Kemp right now, but Norby's at his peak value, so a trade needs to be done by the All Star Break for this man. Kyle Stowers - Again, much like Norby, he may be at his peak value after the ST he had and the hot start to AAA. Him and Norby alone should bring in a better reliever than what we have in the pen right now Terrin Vavra - Not much value, and much like McKenna, he's not on the 40 man, so maybe another team wants his rights and could offer a clearer route to MLB playing time. Hudson Haskin - Supremely blocked, and if he puts up any sort of numbers, he should be part of a package or swapped for something. Heston Kjerstad - I think he can take Ohearn's role quickly, however, depending on how Elias sees it and what type of talent he could seek in a trade, Kjerstad could be seen as a surplus. Would need to bring back a Dawg Colby Mayo - I do not want to see him traded; I want to see him play 1B/3B/RF/DH for the Orioles. However; what sort of value could he retrieve in a trade. A lot of this probably depends on the role Elias sees in Mountcastle. With Santander most likely leaving through FA this offseason, I think it's wise to keep Mayo; but a buddy of mine swears the Orioles are going to trade for Mike Trout this year and guys like Mayo would probably have to be included. I don't think Elias does something like that, but if he did, Mayo would be in that trade. Samuel Basallo - See above. Only additional note is the he would SO valuable as the 1B/DH/Adley's Backup C starting next year if he's ready
  15. I thought this was a shout out to Baltimore dirt bike culture. If that's what this is, I like that a lot
  16. If this is how he holds runners, I'm not looking forward to him being on the bump deep in the playoffs
  17. Montgomery was seeking 7 years, he won't get it. More likely to be 1 or 2 years now. I wonder if a 5 year, 5 opt out contract would do it. Go 30-25-20-15-10 with a 5 mill signing bonus Guaranteed 35 mil over 1 year. 105 over 5 years if he stays (he won't). Maybe he stays for year two, slight possibility for year three, but I don't see him staying all five unless some sort of freak injury happened
  18. I'd say that handful of 4 or 5 stud DSL guys that were up in the FCL and Delmarva and towards the top of Tony's list. This is the wave of talent I am really waiting for. Still probably about 3 years out before it crashes on our shores for the first time. The high tide has shown us Basallo (I think he reaches MLB this year), but you thought our Farm System was good now? Wait until we start getting 10 or so International sign studs on our AAA team each year. I want to see how Tavera, DeLeon, Liranzo, Sosa, Arias, Almeyda, Marao, etc do this year. If half these guys can make it to Bowie, that would be awesome.
  19. His perceived Sexual deviancy is definitely weird, but I think its also a generational problem (I wish this situation would bring that conversation to the societal table more than focusing on Bauer as an individual). I feel, as the narratives have come to light, a lot of what he did can't technically be held against him in court bc it was mutual prior to the "abuse." Its not a good way to live life in my opinion, but in the end, I don't think it will keep him out of MLB bc there are no convictions I'm also hoping the situation changes him for the better; I like redemption stories. But looking at the situation objectively, I think his market is actually being held up by Montgomery and Snell. Bauer will not cost a lot, but teams are probably hoping they can land one of the other two at a discounted rate; once those 2 land, the teams that missed out are going to be desperate enough for pitching to give Bauer a shot; they have probably already prepared PR plans to endure the 3 day fire storm..
  20. ohhh, this sentence makes me chuckle
  21. Adam Frazier body double
  22. McKenna, Ramon Urias, Webb, Baumann, Cionel Perez, Tyler Nevin, Sam Hilliard, Nick Maton, & Cole Irvin are all the current controllable (through arbitration) players on the 40 man that have 0 Options
  23. Ryu is heading back to South Korea. I'm only going 1 year deals on the final 3 on this list. Not much left beyond emergency depth AAAA starters after them Mike Clevinger - 1 Year 15 Million Michael Lorenzen - 1 year 14 Million Trevor Bauer - 1 Year League Min
  24. The Os have been swooping up DFAs pretty liberally again. Elias has done this in the past, using the back of the roster to collect and then DFA them himself hoping to pass about 50% of them through waivers and sneak them into AAA.
