Let's not retaliate. I enjoy a good brawl, but these MFYs will be as sanctimonious as Boston was in 2011 saying that we're going after their guys. Of course, we were far from contending back then. Fair or unfair, we will get the negative reputation around baseball for hitting their guys even if they deserve it. They'll always be able to point to Seager and Bellinger getting hurt by us. The 5th game after the break is on 7/24, so can't we just bring up Povich then? He would have been down for 11 days at that point (starting today). So, we wouldn't necessarily have to have Irvin make a start against Miami.

We did run into some good pitching. Looking at their stats, I wondered how they were only 6th in the NL in ERA. All three of those guys have very good ERAs, but certainly we need to adjust the approach at the plate. Soft tossers have always given us problems - though I think only Imanaga would qualify as such out of the three starters we faced. To give credit to them, they got the clutch hits throughout the series. Some were cheapies, no doubt. We were putrid in that regard. Things will mellow out a bit, just because that's how things go.

I meant that the losing stretch started with blowouts, but I was wrong about that. Wasn't comparing the talent of the two teams. Only legit pitcher was Bedard as far as talent as some overachievement early on (I think) from the guys you mentioned.

I think this is how the 2005 collapse started. Some major beatdowns. I remember the White Sox sweeping us and we kept dipping in the pen early and having starters having to pitch in between starts. Then at the end of that series Raffy tested positive for roids. Oh my!

I said at the time, "leave it to the O's to hit a two-run homer and only get one run!" 2005 broke my baseball soul I thought beyond repair. Then I thought 2012 was 2005 part deux as we fell to two games above .500 shortly after the AS break and then rattled off a 5 game winning streak.

Funny thing is the Astros used to be part of the NL Central. If they still were, that's 5-13 against the NL Central and 52-23 against everyone else. It's all just a coincidence and pitching matchups at the time. Also, who's hot and who's cold at the time. Cards have the Kryptonite soft tossers. Cubs were hot, we were cold, as another example. (Yes, I know there was more to it than that). But our stellar record against the AL East is about to take a nice little dive.

Yeah, def better than 2005...but too many of these problems aren't going away. A few trades will help, but if a team can't score against lefties, they don't win. And we hold our breath every non-Burnes and non-GROD start.
