  1. Seems like even if new ownership is willing to up the annual payroll to 150M+, they're going to want/need to spend most of that additional money on extending our young stars - and will have a better chance of doing so, based on relationships these guys have developed with their teammates and the community, than with newer Boras additions looking at imminent free agency.
  2. If the Phillies hold on to win tonight, the 5 teams with the most wins in MLB will all be out of the playoffs, with a combined record of 1-13. Still sucks O's went out like that, but at least we've got company on the downer bus.
  3. I'm not hyperventilating, you're hyperventilating.
  4. O's won 3+ 16 times during regular season, only lost 3+ three times (although two of those in September). They also haven't lost 3 in a row to any team this year, and they've only lost 4 in a row once. Also: Every time the O's have lost 3+ in row this season, they've immediately followed that by winning 4+ in a row. Counting the season-ending game vs. Boston, they've now lost 3 in a row. Their season-long pattern of breaking losing streaks before they really get going, combined with their killer road record (tied with Atlanta for most road wins in 2023), suggests it's a good bet the O's will find a way to win tonight.
  5. Heaney b/c lefty, or maybe Dunning? I think Montgomery goes Sunday, then Eovoldi.
  6. Greatest sports experience of my life - my son bought the two of us tickets to Game 2 as a late Father's Day present, and it was magical, got so loud it felt like the stadium had come to life and was going to walk away with all of us inside lol. Seemed like one big roar that would never end. I was a little surprised my son made it back for the Delmon explosion, he'd spied the future Mrs. Verlander a couple sections to our right, and disappeared for a while to try getting an autograph. Or something. I remember the crowd: "Jusssssstin, Jusssssstin, Jussssstin" - Not a good day for Verlander lol. Except, you know, he had Kate Upton waiting for him. That was the first and last playoff game either of us has been to.... until this coming weekend. My son got us two tickets to Game 2 as a late Father's Day present. Hmmmm.....
  7. Might be O's v Rays would be at 7, so Astros could avoid airing opposite Cowboys on SNF; and O's v Rangers would be at 4, with Rangers taking priority over Astros to avoid airtime duel with SNF.
  8. I'm optimistic for the postseason in part because the O's got at least one entire series-worth of stink out of their system today: 4 errors, 7 stolen bases given up, 2 wild pitches, 5 unearned runs. Perez got his periodic implosion out of the way. Also: Multiple starting pitchers seem to be heating up at the same time: Bradish, Means, Rodriguez. Also: Wells and Irvin looked great out of the pen. Also: We've seen the last of Lopez, at least for 2023; and possibly Fuji too, depending on Hyde's playoff roster.
  9. 4 out of last 5 O's batters strike out looking. Yikes. Seems like that happens waaaaay too much with our hitters. Bizarre.
  10. Coming off the field, Lopez looks like a guy soaking up the MLB experience while he still can.
  11. Well, good news is, if Lopez gives up b2b dingers again, we still have a 1-run lead for the next rp up.
  12. Not crazy about starting Hicks and his 3-for-29 with 12 strikeouts history vs. Verlander. Kerstad is listed as RF, so put him in RF, start Frazier and his 7-23 vs. Verlander at 2B, use Westburg at DH.
  13. Woulda rathered Baumann get the inevitable gopher ball out of the way *before* issuing the first walk of the game...
  14. Gunnar showing Frazier what range looks like.
  15. Urias just did what Hays should have done last inning - especially with one out and a runner on third. Instead Hays tried to yank it.
  16. That was a baaaad Santander ab - watched 3 strikes on outside part of plate and walked back to bench. YUCK.
  17. Might be we haven't seen O's do anything yet because Elias is quietly engaged in serious talks for arms like: SP: Jose Quintana, Logan Gilbert, Mitch Keller RP: Carlos Hernandez, Kyle Finnegan, Alex Lange
